Pilots! Especially for those of you who have yearned for long and dynamic air battles, we are pleased to announce that we are developing a new game mode for update 1.51 "Cold Steel" that will allow you to play for several hours, allowing an unlimited number of revivals. In this game mode, players can connect to the battle at any time (except for game sessions that have ended). In this game mode, there are specific objectives that have been created, and players will have multiple tasks that they will need to complete: for fighters - to destroy all enemy aircraft; for attackers - to destroy all enemy AAA; for bombers - to bomb enemy strategic targets. As well as this, we are developing more combat missions and creating additional tactical situations., which will become available to players from time to time.

The more a team destroys enemy aircraft and ground targets, captures strategic areas, and completes other additional tasks, the more points that team will receive, hence drawing them closer to victory.

Players that first join one of these battles must start out by using lower tiered aircraft for their team. More powerful aircraft will be available after some time. For successful actions during the battle, this time will be reduced; in other words, to be able to fight with more powerful vehicles, you must first show that you are useful for your team on lower tiered or "wicked/poor" aircraft. Higher tiered vehicles will be available after some time. After flying with an aircraft, vehicles of this type and levels will be locked for some time (so the player must change the type or level of their intended vehicle, as opposed to using the same thing again and again).
    • Joining one of these battles will be possible at any time, except for the last 5 minutes before the mission ends.
    • Players who are not active (not joining in the battle for longer than 60 seconds) will be removed from the game session.
The first players who can enjoy the new game mode "Endless sessions", will be those who play Realistic and Simulator Battles in the Tab "Events". We are looking for your feedback, which is going to be crucial for the development of this game mode.

Interesting... I like the persistency, but sounds like winning begets winning and comebacks would be super hard as the opponent suddenly gets jets

    Some more news

As far as rewards and progression goes, it will be quite different from your regular random battle. Your awards are based on successful actions done to advance your team's standing in battle, e.g. by destroying enemies, bombing bases or fulfilling mission objectives. As long as you remain part of the "enduring confrontation", you will accumulate more and more rewards until you decide to leave. At that point, your spoils of war will be calculated and you will receive your share of RP and SL immediately. So, if you stay for a while, it's a great way to earn loads of rewards! You'll not only be able to skip the queues, but also receive more on average, as your rewards are not influenced by winning or losing the battle (which is of course also true if you stay until the end).

FOR THE UPCOMING TEST, which will be done as an event, it will work similar to the ST-1 Alpha Test we had on April 1st, if you remember. That means that the lineup you can use in battle is pre-defined and you do not require to bring any vehicles to the battle (or in other words, your personal lineup does not matter). In future, this will be changed, but as that requires more development, this is how it will be done for next test at least. As soon as you join the battle, there will be a timer ticking down. If that timer has run down, you'll be able to spawn in a better vehicle and as soon as you do, the timer will reset. Doing successful battle actions will reduce the timer, allowing you to use the better vehicles sooner. In simple words, you will always be able to join the battle, but to get access to better vehicles often, you need do good work on the battlefield!

Battle size is currently planned as regular 16 vs 16.

This is a post made by the sim player Juliet_Six covering Enduring Confrontation. From what i read here, i hope it will change alot before its released.

Hello everybody, I wanted to create a thread where the SB community discusses the new game mode.

For everybody who hasn't tested it on the dev, my quick objective summary.

You can find the Enduring Confrontation under the events tab. You simply select the country you wanna fight for (Soviet vs Germany in this case) your line-up does not matter. Then you get put into the match.

Once you join you are presented with a predefined line-up for your nation.

At first only the Yak-9U or the Yer-2 is available for the soviets (which I was flying). For the Germans the 109-G6 and Do-217 (You can tell because they do not have timers).

You then select the plane you want (which you do not have to have unlocked btw. I do not know which upgrad-state the plane has), equip the load out within 60 seconds or you get kicked. A specific amount of SL as seen in the screenshot is substracted from your account.

Once you take-off you may get an objective

So then you just take off and do the objective if you feel like it or you roam around and shoot down the huns.

When you do shoot somebody down you get RP and SL (I do not know how it calculates research efficiency) and the timers are decreased.

For example I shot down a 109G but got killed by another one when I was flying the Yak-9 at first, so afterwards enough time had passed and I could take-off in the soviet Spitfire.

Regarding the map, as you can see it is bigger than the regular Stalingrad map, however the area added seems to be empty except the far airfields in the corners. At least I did not see any targets outside of the regular Stalingrad boundaries.

That is pretty much it. If you die you can keep respawning until you run out of SL or time, and if you die in a good plane that has a timer restriction that is reset so you have to fly something else again until the timer runs out again.

    Now my personal feedback:

Wtf is this match-up? Except for the Yak-9U the soviet fighters are as unlegit as it gets and why did they have to add a damm 190-Dora to the Soviets?! I was actually disappointed I could not fly a Yak-3 or La-7 against the Germans. The way I see it they took planes of equal BR (like 109 G-6 and Yak-9U for starter planes) and just added them. Now ofc this is just the dev server, but if this will be exactly the same on live, damm.

The Objectives are cryptice at best. Flying a fighter I would have expected to either fly close air support for a target, escort friendly aircraft or patrol a certain area that the game would then give other enemy planes the objective to attack, resulting in us meating. However it simply gave me the objective to get points? This needs to be worked out better.

The map is large but not used. I never even took off from the far airfield, and it ended up being a simple fight to death over the river at Stalingrad, like it is always the case with the regular map. If you spawn in a bomber you do not get an objective but just circle until somebody spots something on the map (or targets just randomly spawn?).

The map is huge for WT standards (it has comparable size to regular spain) but there is no vectoring/spotting. The only thing you get is "Our base Far airfield is under attack". Well would be cool if the ground crews could have told me before it was too late. This mode needs spotting. Like in RoF you have balloons and they will tell you "Enemy aircraft spotted near La Gorgue" for example. In this mode friendly troops must be able to spot as well. Something like "Armored column at E7 spotted an enemy ground attacker low".

While I just said that the map is huge for WT standards it is tiny compared to other flight sims. For low tiers it might be ok but this was a tier IV battle so I could get from one side of the map to the other extremely quickly. If I wanted to I could have easily killed the JIP guys, just like in regular matches. All in all I feel like spawn-killing will be an even bigger issue in this mode. Simply because your ground crew doesn't tell you if there is an enemy lurking the particular airfield you want to take-off from, and the AA is still fairly random and weak against aircraft strafing the runway, even if they are flying slowly.

When you have to select a plane you will get kicked after 60 seconds even if you are not AFK but selecting loadouts. The first time I joined I got promptly kicked while settings up my belts. Then I once died, went to get a drink and immediately got kicked again because it also kicks you in the middle of the game in the spawn screen. So you literally cannot leave your PC and if you rejoin there is no guarantee you will join the same instance of the event, so if you are playing with a squad and one of you has to go for a call, pee, w/e, GG.

There is strategic bombers but no encouragement to fly them realistically (i.e. formations). So what most bombers ended up doing is bomb an airfield through the cloud cover, then just play gunship. That is ofc because none of the problems regarding bombers in SB were touched.

There is no limit on aircraft in terms of how many players can fly them simualtaneously, from what I saw. So imagine this *would* be a historical event with Germany vs US and the best German plane would be the Me-262 which is unlocked after 60 minutes. While that in theory means each individual player can only spawn in an Me-262 every 60 minutes, it would also mean that if all German players joined at the start of the match and would not disconnect before the hour it would theoretically be possible that they all just land at the same time and all respawn in Me-262s from what I could tell. Or it would be possible, that, since the Me-262 in a historical event is a damm fine aircraft, the players already flying Me-262s would not die, be very succesful and as a result everybody would at a point also end up flying Me-262.

Please share your feedback and suggestions for improvements as well

i just love how they are talking about a new game mode in 1.51 yet we can't play that game mode yet. I almost expect them to say in the next few days that the game mode will only take a couple more days. Then that will be replaced with that it will come soon™ and suddenly we are 6 months away.

They first announced this game mode about a year ago but when people got to try it for the first time. It looked like they had been working on it for the last week or so.

And if I remember correctly, it was announced for Ground Forces initially - supposed to be long pushes as tanks get battered with air support in a push to take Stalingrad.

Now it's an air battle thing coming soon(tm).

They are testing it again but it's simulator only. Most people seem to like it. The lineup is still crap. Germany vs Russia tier 4. The Russians get their premium FW 190 D-9 as an example. Well, once it actually goes live we are supposed to be able to select our own lineup which is both good and bad.

I have not tried it yet but I will once they get a better lineup. If not I will play it when it gets released.

    An update on this.

It still have the same crappy missions. Either get enough Air Superiority points or bomb Airfield X

The lineups vary between historical and BR based. For the last month it have been using a BR based one spread out over 5 different groups.
    1.0 - 2.0
    2.0 - 3.3
    3.3 - 4.7
    4.7 - 6.3
    6.0 - 9.3

Overall, very little have changed since the release

Haven't played WT in a long time.. shame since I used to play it a lot in planes.
