Looking at getting a new i5 with better processing power as i tend to play games with a lot of physics and data calculations going on in the background (ex. Stellaris, Space Engineers,... and Megamek if you can believe that).

Might be convinced to get an i7 if the performance vs price is right, but i'm mostly interested in the most bang for the buck.

Not interested in SLI, overclocking or any of that fancy shit. I prefer ice cold reliable efficiency in my computing.

Seperately, also looking for suggestions for high capacity SSDs.

GTX1080ti should be announced at CES if the rumor mill is to be believed. If you are going to upgrade your card wait until they are released so that the prices on the old ones drop (if you don't want a bleeding edge 1080ti in the first place)

kinda hard to tell you what to get without knowing current build..

    so with that being said.

ill just give you what im looking at for my next build

Ram undecided most likely gskill or corsair with being 4 x 8 gig and DDR4 2400
Blu ray /dvd combo drive, most likely ASUS or LG
    Extra fans

I appreciate the help, but I'm just looking at MoBo's right now. I already have a case and I've decided on a CPU (the same as you selected above).
The big decision I need to make is on a MoBo. What makes the $245 Asus better than one of the ones I picked? Here they are in comparison:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=-1|13-130-873^13-130-873,13-128-835^13-128-835,13-132-639^13-132-639

Also, why not 3200 DDR4 ram instead of 2400?

I had a gigabyte ud5 amd mobo before, was very nice.

now have a ASUS sabertooth amd mobo

they both have very nice features.

the sabertooth has more onboard fan ports which i like, they can be controlled through the board. also lots of temp sensors.

sabertooth was easier to overclock but your not looking at that

the 5 year warranty is nice. though its ASUS >.> ive had issues with the support in the past.

the sabertooth is limited to 2400..

which is a downfall of it being about 2 year old board. no clue why it hasnt been updated.

    I have a Coolermaster HAF 932..

Full size cases are nice, put 3 120mm fans on the top to blow out along with the rear fan. All the others blow in. So the air makes a flow from the bottom right to top left along with the cpu cooler blowing to the rear as well. All my 120mm fans have purple LEDs.

Been nicknamed The Monstrosity, after a few people saw it in person and they called it a monstrosity.

Hey, that's the same as mine! Just FYI, get a Modular PSU. There's not much space in the cable side of the case.

You watch anything on CES yet? the new AMD vega card has some interesting stuff on it. Has a pixel engine chip in which is no longer renders anything that is hidden behind something. It does it automatically on the card itself with no crazy game engine work needing to be done.

along with all the other stuff coming out in 4 to 8 months.

new AMD CPU which is Ryzen, a AM4 chip with new motherboard architecture and chipsets

new updated 1080 with kabylake chip? now 2080

seems ill be most likely building a new computer this year as well. being mobo, cpu, ram, gpu. not a whole new one because that would be crazy.

Yeah... I'd wait on Vega. Wait until third-party people can verify that it's as good as AMD claims. Meanwhile, you've got VR ready NVIDIA Cards all over the place.

what is this 'money' you talk about? I have never actually seen it, only heard rumors and far-fetched stories that such a thing actually exists, and is not simply a concoction propagated by banks and politicians in order to pretend there is hope for better things in order to keep the masses in line... >.>
