They've been pumping the brakes for a while now though, and our reveal was a decent amount of time earlier this year. Much of what they've shown recently on social media is putting in lighting passes and redundant models like the new fish model that ended up way to large in game, which is stuff that gets dealt with towards the end of the process. Finishing touch kind of stuff. That fish is low priority. It is introduced using the code as the other fish. The problem is not with the code, it was with the size of that asset as it was imported, and they are not concerned with the groundwork code. They are very very close to done and I can't wait for next week's update to hit.

This is exciting stuff. Never expected Warframe to be going strong after four years, but very glad it is.

PoE will also add mod sets.

Looks nifty, and we'll presumably see more in the future. Probably won't compete with Riven meta builds, but seems like good addition still.

    EDIT:

Full details on the update are now up.
    Should be out next week.

It looks like they are dropping this JUST before the release of Destiny 2 on PC, cant say they do not have their marketing and timing down. I imagine this is going to pull a lot of PC players gunning for Destiny away. Maybe not permanently, but enough that some may stay.

not sure how I feel about these sets, six pieces is daunting especially since several of them are for the same asset. Some of them look like they may simply be sidegrades to existing mods but really, with the current mod design I often find it difficult to move a single mod around, trying to fit in six for a dubious set bonus? I suppose if the bonus is stacking it might be worth swapping some things around, but honestly unless the set bonus is madness incarnate I really doubt I'll be able to fit all six in often.

To me it feels like the sets are for newer or just casual players, who don't have tons of primed, corrupted and Riven mods to min/max.
Of the three sets, I would find use for the gladiator set, but rest are just... meh.

yeah, if you can get partial bonuses etc... it might be worth replacing some of the old standbys for sidegrade, and some of them may be useful in the 'in addition to' role, but I imagine unless they're incredibly good the upper tiers will generally only use those that are tangential to their existing stuff. Though if the melee ones stack... holy shitnuggets XD

Certainly, there is some healthy competition there, but I'm pretty sure this latest update didn't happen just because of Destiny. The Warframe devs been talking about introducing more open world aspects for awhile.

I have to admit, though, I'm definitely one of those people feeling the draw. Personally, it's very difficult for me to justify buying a brand new game at $60 designed for grind when I'm already so heavily invested into Warframe... which is also free to play and has a long histiory of major updates being free.

and every update being free, and actually being truly worth every dime invested in it even if you chose to spend money, which is entirely optional because nothing in the game that actually influences gameplay isn't obtainable for free, and even those things that are entirely optional can be obtained for free by trading for currency with other players ^.^
