Although a 5.56 can have scary accuracy even on full auto. Amazing for short to mid range encounters. And you can carry even more ammo. :)

We should do some testing with the heavy plate rig vs 5.56 and 6.5. I mean, if it's accurate enough, just shoot them in the dick or the face and avoid the armor altogether. But I'd like to see how useful the heavy plate is on body shots.

It is incredibly useful. I will always take the Heavy carrier. It take 3+ 7.62 rounds to penetrate. The only thing that will penetrate it in one shot is the ASP 12.7 and the .50 cal.

Jcadger and I found that out last night. The IAm guys were running heavy plate. He took one with a .50 and I got the other with .45s to the throat and face.

So, let's say I want to be a mortar man.

    Recommendations on loadout?

Just an example, my current medic loadout:

    Uni: AAF Roll-up
    -sound suppressor (7.62mm)
    -NV goggles (black)
    Vest: GA Carrier GL Rig
    -Smoke grenade (red)
    -Smoke grenade (green)
    -7.62mm 20rd mag x9
    Pack: Assault pack (digi)
    -Medkit
    -First aid kit x5
    Weapon: Mk18 ABR 7.62
    -Nightstalker scope
    Headgear: Military cap (AAF)
    Facewear: Bandanna (shades)
    Binocs: Laser Designator
    Terminal: GPS

    Load: 52% (28.45kg)

I've got the most armor available in the game except for headgear. The suppressor and NVGs are quickly accessible for attachment vie the inventory menu being on the first screen. Spare FAKs are in my pack so people can refill on the fly if needed or if I get taken out. I've got red or green smoke to mark areas with as needed. Since the medic will be towards the rear of the formation I went with the ABR marksman rifle for longer-range engagements and the Nightstalker for thermal/rangefinder capabilities. I could take a bigger pack but I prefer to keep the weight down so that I can run up to help wounded when needed.

Basically all my loadouts use the same wearable gear and I switch out the equipment based on role. I'll swap out the backpack depending on role as well, my alternate is the Kitbag (green) for larger loads. I know I should probably take a helmet but I like the cap/bandanna look.

Well currently unless the map has a specific mod you have to have 2 people carry a mortar, one for the bipod and one for the tube. The Wasteland server somehow changed it to only need 1 backpack but I don't think we'll have that capability for our home-brew missions.

Let me play around and see what I come up with. Any particular uniform or gun you like?

    Um...

Whatever makes me look like a dictator.

I am not knowledgeable enough to be particular about the rifles. I guess there is no 'light mortar' option...

How about general explosive fun I guess. Unless someone wants to be my Mortar bitch

I can give you a missile launcher and/or rifle with a grenade launcher.

    Here you go El Colonel:

    Uni: AAF Officer
    -NV goggles (black)
    -6.5 30rd mag
    Vest: Tactical Vest (Olive)
    -Smoke grenade (red)
    -Smoke grenade (green)
    -6.5mm 30rd mag x5
    40mm 3rnd HE grenade x3
    Pack: Kitbag (Green)
    -Explosive satchel x2
    -First aid kit x5
    Weapon: MX 3GL
    -Nightstalker scope
    -6.5mm suppressor
    Headgear: Beret
    Facewear: Aviators
    Binocs: Laser Designator
    Terminal: GPS

    Load: 56%

You've got decent armor but still have the regal look of a ruthless tyrant. You are loaded with things that go boom - your rifle has a grenade launcher that can shoot 3 HE grenades before reloading, plus you've got 3 reloads for a total of 12 40mm launchable grenades. You're carrying 2 explosive satchels, the most powerful placed explosives in the game. The Nightstalker is an OP scope that's got thermal optics and a built in rangefinder, plus you can change the zero point for long range fire if needed. Not too heavy so you can run around a while without getting winded and losing your run speed. The NV goggles are stored on your uni so you can use them when needed but they don't clutter your look when it's daytime.

since we're asking loadouts, How about for me? Jtac/ UAV operations? Long/Medium range contact, if people start coming towards me, I'd want to be able to run away quickly, basically defending my self from 1 or 2 people shouldn't be a problem, but anything else, and I book out/ call for help.

On Wasteland? I don't think so. On our home built missions we should have access to Virtual Arsenal in game (at least at the beginning) so as long as you set it up in your VA and save it you can load it in any mission that has VA.

UAV backpack = heavy, so you're going to be lightly armed, armored, and supplied. JTAC teams are likely going to have to be 2-3 people with at least one there solely for security/ammo. Ideally, JTAC is with a vehicle and removed from the fighting by a kilometer and a hill.

I wouldn't recommend multi-role with that kind of load-out, but it may be beneficial to combine JTAC with a sniper team since AI doesn't give a shit about camo/sound. You're either in range to be engaged or you're not.

Tonight, we had a drone operator spotting for our marksmen. There are some bugs to work out, but it worked. The additional overwatch was priceless to the group that had to move into close contact with the enemy.

But to answer the actual question: Loadout?

    For a standard JTAC/UAV operator:
    • ECH (Helmet)
    • Combat Fatigues (3x First Aid Kit, 2x Designator Batteries)
    • AAF GA Carrier GL (6x Primary Magazine, 3xRGN grenades, 3x Green Smoke, 2x Green Chemlight)
    • Laser Designator
    • UAV Pack (if using one)
    • UAV Terminal (Olive - NATO, Green - AAF, Brown - CSAT. Each can only control that side's UV's)
    • Kitbag (if no UAV) (6x Primary Mag, 3x First Aid Kit, extra smoke, extra frags, team-mate ammo if you're with another weapon).
    • Primary - I recommend the MXC with MRCO and a supressor just in case. If you need to go lighter, use a Mk20 or TRG.
    For a Recon/Mixed Role:

Remove the UAV Kit, add red smoke, more mags, and consider a heavier primary like the MXM. Bring two scopes. One for spotting and long range and one for closer stuff. I use the LRPS or TWS for spotting and the MRCO for in-close.

    For a vehicle-supported JTAC team:

I would also suggest a designated vehicle for the JTAC/TACP. It would be best if the JTAC did not engage at all unless they are being actively targeted. It is always a good idea to have a buddy to watch your back too. Depending on how many people we have, we may or may not have an extra person to do that though.

Here's a UAV Operator loadout I threw together:

The idea for this one is since you're going to be long range I set you up with a markman's rifle, the Mk18 ABR, with a silencer and thermal scope so you can spot enemies more easily and be accurate at long range. The drone backpack doesn't have any storage space and is VERY heavy but once you get set up and deploy the UAV your load weight is only 42%, which means you can run around for a pretty long while before tiring out. You're not carrying the heaviest armor because of the weight of the UAV but the Tactical Vest is pretty good and the SF (Special Forces) Helmet has the second-highest armor value of all helmets. Plus you've got a couple of smoke grenades to mark your location if you need to be rescued or picked up.

You can always tweak this around a bit to change the look in case you like a different camo scheme. I put 5 first aid kits in there, you can trade 1 or 2 for more ammo magazines if you feel you don't have enough ammo.

I think I may have caused some confusion by listing JTAC and UAV operator together, they really probably should be 2 separate roles.

Alright, I know I posted up my build earlier, but I'd like to see what the Skwi comes up with as far as crunchy numbers.
