"Have you ever wondered just how similar Mechwarriors are to the knights of ancient Terra? Could they be undone by technology just as their ancestors were? 'If the gun made the knight obsolete, what would it take to kill the Mechwarrior?', I wondered. Remove the nobility and what did they have left? Power comes in many forms. The Blakists had the right idea, but the wrong execution. They let their foolish dogma get in the way of their mission. I have no such weakness.

"While the secularized elements of Comstar were fully distracted by the Clan threat, Word of Blake agents had unfettered access to Terra's ancient labyrinth of databanks. This wealth of knowledge allowed them to blur the lines between man and machine. Over the years, their advancements in bio-mechanical engineering allowed them to create spies without equal; they could go anywhere, hide anywhere, be anyone. I've even read of some that had their entire skin replaced to hide their true identity. A "skinjob"... a truly horrific thought, but what better way to hide a spy among you enemies?

However, for all their careful planning and technological advancements, the Word of Blake lacked one crucial element to overthrow the House lords: numbers. Although there were many within the ComGuards that would rally to their cause, the Blakists had no where near the numbers required to wage a war at the scale they would require. It is obvious now that in their hubris, they greatly underestimated the resolve of their enemies. Orbital strikes, nuclear and chemical warfare, suicide bombings, and cybernetic death squads did less to tilt the odds in the Blakists' favor and more to galvanize the whole Inner Sphere against them. Those damn fools... fanatics... narcissists... their inability to identify their own shortcomings was their ultimate downfall.

If they had waited a few more years... if the Revenant project had completed its development cycle... if they had allowed more time to increase production capacity... they would have had an army large enough to challenge even Cameron's mighty Star League.

Oh well. Their loss is my gain."

"The Revenant... such potential... squandered. It has taken me nearly two decades of scouring old and incomplete records to reproduce the data... so much lost or buried by antiquity. What I found was not surprising given the context of the time it was being developed.

From what I can see, the design was rushed into production with more than a few flaws. It's armament was only effective against soft targets. It's armor was little better than a light recon mech of the Succession Wars. Worst of all, however, its system's shielding against electronic warfare was entirely insufficient. Even it's IFF fuctions would sometimes crash when under the effects of ECM. The fact that it was pushed through to production at all just goes to show how desperate the Blakists had become by that point in the war. What a waste of resources...

Apparently there were at least two other models produced at the time. I believe they were heavier versions, but their numbers were so few they had even less of an impact on the war than the Revenant. What little data I can find on them is only written accounts by soldiers who faced them and those offer me no useful insight into their design.

For this reason, I've decided to now turn all my research towards the Revenant. The platform itself is hardly battleworthy, but with some alterations of my own design, it should serve as a good testbed for near future developments."

Ok, new theory. Blakist survivor of the Jihad builds time machine, brings forces from 3075 to 3048 just in time to help the Inner Sphere prepare for the Clans. His future technology and knowledge allow him to become influential within the current-era Comstar and IS governments. He rises to power and crafts the Sphere into a fascist dictatorship opposed only by some plucky Rasalhague mercenaries.

We shall call this time the War Against Space Hitler.

Could this be the new timeline Magnus was talking about? :3
Getting rid of all the Battletech technology inconsistency/bullshit and give us access to meaningful technological/upgrade progression?
Balanced Mech designs? balanced weaponry? All the cool toys i always wanted but were only available ~ dark age?
    Space Hitler?

this can only be awesome :)

"Now that my work in the Republic is nearing completion, I must begin the next chapter in my life. This world... it is perfect for my needs. My extensive research on Terra has revealed far more Star League facilities on the planet than most suspect. Apparently, at one point the Camerons had intended it as a launch point for deep space excursions. The underground factories are extensive but only partially complete. The Blakist had attempted to utilize these resources during the Jihad, but unreliable supply chains and the Ravens' final attack put a swift end to that. I am uncertain at this time to what extent the clanners know of the facilities, but I am willing to bet my fortune they have no idea what they really have.

I know of their rivalry with the Diamond Sharks. I know what they seek. Their grip on the planet is tenuous at best. I can use that to my advantage. I will offer them something they cannot refuse. They are more pragmatic than the others. I will not be denied.

For centuries, the planet's true potential has remained dormant. Total anarchy has done much of the job to keep it hidden all this time. I will use it to create a revolution in philosophy and technology. The death of the 'Mechwarrior' will begin here."
