MechWarrior: Living Legends is a MW-based mod for Crysis Wars that ahs won several awards for Mod of the Year and features many new advancements not seen in past MW games, most notably Combined Arms Warfare allowing you to pilots not only mechs but tanks, VTOLs, Aerospace, and even Battle Armor all in the same match. In fact this variety often emphasizes using combined tactics to get the upper hand. To play MWLL you need Crysis Wars which you get a couple of different ways. The full official game is available though Steam as a package with Crysis Warhead, most of the time it's $20US but sometimes it comes up for sale for $10 or even $5. You can also get a free bundle with the Crysis Wars demo and MWLL launcher combined, available for download here. The webpage should have all instructions to get you up and running.

One of the most common problems with getting MWLL to connect to servers is a error called Authentication Failed (3). This error indicates a problem with your CD Key Registry - servers check your game to make sure you have a valid CD Key showing that you purchased the game. This error usually comes up with Steam installs since Steam changes the CD Key coding when it install programs. This webpage shows a fix for correctly entering your CG Key into the .cfg file to correct the problem. You might want to go ahead and check your file before you even start to make sure the CD Key is entered correctly. Voila! Now you can connect to MWLL servers.

Okay, so you've tried MWLL and decided you like it. That's good! But maybe you're still confused on how some parts of the game works. How do I capture zones? Why is my mech's head armor gone after I eject and get back in? What the hell is a MBL?

Your first point of reference should be the MWLL Wiki page, and especially their Basics Guide. Lots of good info included here to get you started. A word of caution on one aspect - the vehicle pages are outdated and incomplete, so some variants listed there may not actually match what is available in-game.

You might want to check out the ControlMap .pdf or even print it out for handy reference until you get more accustomed to the controls. You can always re-map them with your ActionMapper in the MWLL launcher.

Most of the equipment will be familiar to anybody here with BattleTech or Mechwarrior experience. There are a few newer-tech weapons, some with odd names and some that work differently from what you may be used to so I'll go over some here.
    • RAC - devastating AC weapon. Unlike ACs, which fire like a semiautomatic every time you hit the trigger, or UACs, which fire a burst, RACs are fully automatic ACs that will fire as long as you hold the trigger. The weapon itself has a heat gauge that you need to watch - once the weapon overheats it will jam and be unavailable until it cools down. RACs can put out brutal damage if you can keep them on target, but they chew through ammo quickly so can be expensive if not used accurately.
    • MG - MGs in MWLL are very different from previous titles in that they have EXTREMELY long range. Still very low damage and heat output against vehicles. Very effective against BA. One great use is if an enemy BA is climbing on a friendly mech, you can use MGs to try to blow the BA off without worrying about damaging your teammate much.
    • DSRM - Dual fire SRM or SSRM launchers. These work the same as their base model but fire twice as many missiles per salvo.
    • MRM - Medium range missiles. Very high salvo rates, as much as 30 or 40 per launcher. Slightly less damage than LRMs of comparable size. These are semi-guided rockets, they don't lock on and track like LRMs or ATMs but they will follow your reticule if you move it after firing a salvo. MRMs will track TAG or NARC. They do have a bit of spread but the sheer volume of missiles make MRMs effective.
    • ATM - Clan Advanced Tactical Missile. Very high damage per missile and lock-on capabilities make ATMs look attractive but they have a narrow range window compared to other missile types - min 150m and max 750m. Smaller salvos sizes make them vulnerable to AMS as well.
    • ELRM - extended range LRMs. Carry less ammo per ton but can lock on from farther away.
    • ArrowIV - high damage missile artillery. Carried by very few units, ArrowIV missiles deal high splash damage and are best used with spotters utilizing NARC or TAG.
    • S/M/LBL - Simple means "beam laser", your standard laser type.
    • HS/M/LL - Clan Heavy laser. Higher damage than standard lasers along with higher heat, shorter range and extended beam duration. Very effective if the beam can be kept focused on a component. Can quickly overwhelm cooling systems if multiple heavy lasers are used continuously.
    • XPL - X-pulse Laser. Basically a fully automatic lasers, the will fire pulses as long as you want to hold the trigger. Higher range than standard pulse lasers, effective for brawling if you can watch your heat levels.
    • GECM - Guardian, reduces your radar detection range to 500m. No area of effect. Does increase enemy missile lock-on time.
    • AECM - Angel ECM, an upgraded version of GECM. AECM has a 300m bubble for shielding friednly units and slightly extends the range at which units cannot be detected, otherwise function like GECM.
    • EOPTICS - extended zoom. Press [Z] to zoom standard then press again for EOptics zoom.
    • C3 - shares radar information with any C3 equipped units in a 1000m radius. This can daisy chain across the battlefield and is very effective for relaying targeting info to friendly Long Tom and ArrowIV artillery units, as well as LRM boats.
    • BAP/BHP - active probes, extend your radar range by 200m and 400m respectively.
I'm going to keep this thread updated with a FAQ as well so please submit your questions and I'll answer them as best I can. I've got a few already that I'll post down here. Hope this helps you guys and girls, I know I'm not an expert but I remember quite a bit from playing in the past before MWO was created.

    FAQ

Q: How do I capture zone in Terrain Control?
A: There is a marker in the capturable zone, like a flag or HPG relay. As you approach it you'll hear a beeping sound indicating the zone is being captured by your team. You will have to have more friendly units than enemy units within a zone at the same time for the zone to come under your control.

Q: How do I earn more CBills?
A: Quite simply, the best way is by dealing damage, capturing zones and killing enemies. This also depends on the game mode as well - more on that in a minute. As you do more things on the battlefield to help your team you will gain ranks as well, and with each rank gain your starting CBills will increase the next time you respawn. If you have a vehicle and gain more CBills and want to upgrade, you can set your vehicle in a repair bay, power down with [P] and sell the unit with [J] to gain back a fraction of the unit's cost, based on damage condition.

Q: What do the different game types mean?
A: There are 5 different game types in MWLL.
    • Team Solaris Arena, or TSA, is basically a team deathmatch mode where your team fights the enemy team for supremacy. Each player can earn CBills for dealing damage and killing enemies. There are also bonuses for TAG, NARC and C3 support as well. The team with the highest score at the end wins,
    • Test of Strength, or TOS, is similar to TSA with one exception - players cannot earn extra CBills in game, only by ranking up. Therefore it is important to be more tactical in your approaches and minimize damage to yourself since your limited CBills mean you have less resources to repair with.
    • Terrain Control, or TC, is a team capture mode where you can earn CBills by damaging enemies or capturing zones. Many capturable zones will also have mech or vehicle hangars allowing repairs and purchases in those zones along with new spawn points as long as you control them.
    • Solaris Arena, or SA, is every person for themself. Players earn rank by doing damage and in turn can have more starting CBills at each respawn.
    • Last Man Standing is a submode of SA in which players cannot respawn within a round. Once there is only one player left, then the match restarts and the winning player is rewarded while repsawned players begin with their set CBill amounts. There is no ranking up in LMS, the starting CBills can only be changed by the server manager.
Q: If I eject and get back in my mech why is the head armor gone?
A: If you eject while powered up then the ejecting blows out your cockpit glass. The mech is still pilotable but any shots that hit the hit have a chance for insta-kill. To eject safely you have to power down first, then exit the mech, thus leaving the head armor intact.

Q: I'm out of ammo but have no CBills. Can somebody give me a loan?
A: Yes! To loan CBills to another player press the right ctrl key. Use the up/down arrows to select the amount you want to loan. The right arrow key will move you to the player menu, where you can use up/down again to select the teammate you wish to transfer to. The top-most name or amount shown will be your selection. Once you know your amount and recipient, press Enter to complete the transfer or press right ctrl again at any time to cancel.

Q: What team do I need to choose?
A: For the Skjaldborg server, and most others, simply select Auto Join and the server will assign you to a team automatically. This is the best way to try to keep things balanced. Don't worry - both teams can take either Clan or IS equipment, unless specifically restricted by the server admin.

    Q: How do I repair and re-arm?
A: To repair you have to return to a mech or vehicle bay like where you first purchased your unit and power down. Repairs cost CBills - you'll see them draining away as repairs are made. Once the CBill counter stops draining then repairs are finished and you can power back up. For ammo you'll need to purchase it manually through the buy menu using the ammo tab. If you have free tons (listed under your weapons loadout) you can carry extra ammo that will automatically reload in battle as you run out.

Q: Did somebody just nuke the battlefield? What was that flash that damaged me?
A: Did you just destroy an enemy mech? In MWLL there is a random chance for mech engines to go critical and exlode, causing damage to surrounding units. This is indicated by the destroyed mech glowing brightly just after being destroyed.

    Solid info. Much appreciated.

Do you plan to tie download and 'borg server info into your post?

I can tie the download info here along with the server key fix. I would add the server info except this is a public forum and I'm not sure Varg wants that displayed for anybody to find.

So that one map that was most water with a VTOL capture point in the middle where exactly is the zone for that point? Maybe a separate thread about oddities on specific maps? not a thread for each map just one where a post has a map of a map (sounds odd) and with notable things about that map specifically.

I know the one you're talking about but I've only gone after that point once, as far as I know the only way to get to it is using mech or BA jump jets. The capture point itself is at the top of that mountain I believe.

    Greetings
I am duelist, a player from Mechwarrior: Living Legends. I have seen the Skjaldborg play MWLL this year. I believe you had an event on a recent weekend in MWLL. MWLL is not dead yet. While the community is small, there are still people working hard to keep the game alive. There is an event that runs on weekends for players and units:

    Chaos March

Saturdays 02:00 utc and 20:00 utc (8pm cst Friday, 2pm cst Saturday).

Join the teamspeak server mwll.mwmaster.net to play. The supervisor will assign you a team.
No commitment, players may come and go as they choose.
    Event Info
    30 minute time limit.
    Best 3 of 5 maps.
Six factions play one campaign for a planet.
Faction (house) leaders choose pre-made droplists (regiments) from their fleets or planets.
    Event is ongoing.
Players can join on the next map if play is in progress.
Game Server is not password-protected so players may connect and spectate.

Detailed information on the event can be found here.

    Youtube Playlist of past matches

This website shows when players on in MWLL and some stats:.

The game is still playable as detailed in this guide and in this forum post.

Players are always welcome to come back for some combined arms Battletech action.

Thanks for the info! I'm sure we'd get a few people now and again that'll join you.. in fact I just might this weekend or next, depending on how things shake out.
