For those of you who have seen it already, or those who don't care if it is spoiled.

Just in case people read the forums weird, I'm putting this in a spoiler tag
I don't understand Starkiller base. It makes no sense. Are all of these planets it was destroying in a single solar system that it shared? How would people not notice the giant planet destroying thing being built in the Council system? Did it destroy that solar system's sun? Wouldn't that have done the job pretty well by itself? Wouldn't that have fucked the base up because now it's a ball of ice? How did it move from system to system if it was locomotive? How the hell did they see the Council worlds being destroyed in real time? Light takes time to travel, they must have been SUPER close.

My thoughts exactly. They completely drain a star and then what? Die on their now icy one-time use weapon? Nothing could be more inefficient. There is speculation that the whole thing was a plan by Supreme Leader Snoke to draw out Skywalker, since he did take down the first one. A bit far-fetched in my opinion.

why the hell did han and leia name their son ben? I'm assuming after obi-wan using his hermit name. but as far as i know leia never met him and han knew him for what 48 hours at most? you don't need to allude to a past character goddammit. especially when the two parents barely knew the namesake. that bugs me more than anything.

That whole bit bugged the shit out of me. I mean, the effects were super cool. The logic was super dumb. If you have the power to build something like that you have the power to build something WAY more efficient. The other bit that bugged the shit out of me is that for the third time in a row, they were dumb as fuck and enabled the super-death-machine to be destroyed by a single point of failure. No built in redundancy. They're fucking dumb and deserve to die.

Fin and Poe are cool. I would watch a Fin/Poe buddy movie.

Well, they did say it's "Hyperlight", whatever the fuck that means. It's good to see that Disney fell back on the magical handwaving that Lucas did.

I had some other gripes: I think the movie was a bit predictable (very much a rehash of a New hope). Of course Han was going to die. Leia must of been ready to collect on his life insurance sending him to his death. "Go talk to our son..." Really!?
It also could've been casted a bit better for the First Order, particularly for General Hux and Kylo Ren. Hux had such a cool speech, but he just looked too young to be a GENERAL!? And I wasn't the only one to giggle when Ren first took off his helmet. His introduction was so awesome, then he just became Anakin 2.0.
Was it just me or did Rey come into her own a bit too quickly? She just got confirmation of the Force, maybe a week ago and now she's beating Sith apprentices. There is no way she's not succumbing to the dark side with that kind of power.
You'd think I hated the movie. Overall I thought it was well done. Poe, Finn and Rey were casted well and I actually found them likable, a rarity these days. The old cast did a great job without stealing from the new guys. I'd prefer this not be another trilogy about the Skywalker family. Perhaps Rey isn't family, so time will tell.

The visuals were magnificent. I love the fact they used more live stunts/effects as opposed to CGI (similar to Fury Road) and there wasn't the whole "shiny" quality that the prequels had.

And are you telling me that in 40 years Han never tried out Chewy's bowcaster? I find that harder to believe than anything else plot-wise.

Right? The whole bowcaster thing was a facepalm. Some friends they are! I enjoyed the movie but there was too much camp in it for my tastes. Finn seemed to be the voice of the audience, calling out some of the silliness. I laughed at a number of his lines

Essentially it could be based on tachyons or whatever. Tachyon particles are particles that cannot go slower than speed of light but can go faster.

Also this is why it didn't need to be locomotive.

It didn't destroy it's star or the star in the target system. It cooked up the planets (or did they actually blow up partially?).

Every shot drained the Starkiller Base's own star, to the point where it would be depleted. In which case Starkiller Base stops being a weapon as they cannot move an entire planet.

For the weapon to work and not just blow up there had to be some sort of containment field which also protects the planet and base from being utterly incinerated.

They couldn't have seen the Council worlds being destroyed and there couldn't have been that many planets in such proximity in same star system that were habitable. If they were in different systems it makes seeing them all get hit even harder but at least it would explain why they were so spread up in the sky.

Finn is definitely my favorite new character. Poe is cool too but watching Finn kinda figure out how the universe actually is outside of his own isolated/indoctrinated background is pretty funny.

Even if it was Tachyons, the visible portion of it would be invisible. Shit would just go poof and we wouldn't know until the light reached our stupid human retinas with their limited visual spectrum. Starkiller Base threw me out of the movie more than anything. SKB is apparently a 2 shot weapon, because they fired once, recharged (which destroyed the sun), and then blew up. The expenditure of manpower and money on something like that, which is way bigger and more deadly than the Death Stars, is just unfathomable. Not to mention what digging that giant trench around the equator of the planet must have done to it climatalogically/geologically. If you have that much capital that they waste on a two shot weapon, they're idiots

I think that means hyperspace somehow. hello centerpoint station. also if it's built in a planet doesn't that mean they have to wait for the planet to revolve before they can fire on whatever their target is?

I don't think Kylo Ren is a sith. dark side use yes. I'm not even sure snoke is a sith but we barely saw him so who knows about him. the sith are a philosophy/religion. not all dark side users are sith. i think all sith use the dark side but i suppose technically a sith could use the light side of the force.

I think you mean. 'The cannon is dead. Long live the cannon. Oh shit... The cannon is dead. Long live the cannon. Oh shit... The cannon is dead... should we build another cannon?

I'm not going to gripe about plot or SCIENCE! but there are some little things I'll pick at. The bowcaster thing is one. Next up: the Falcon should have been smashed to bits with that shoddy ass flying and crashing into shit.

True. I guess the issue is he was trained at some point (perhaps by both Luke and Snoke). Then Rey shows up and pretty much dominates him.

Be sure to make them incrementally larger than the previous one. Oh and more expensive each time too.
Expansive and expensive or go home!

She was already pretty good with the staff, so I guess I can see those skills translating to the lightsaber. I'll play along with it anyway. I do agree that the Force use was too good too quick. It's not like Luke using it to concentrate on a bombing run, this was a direct confrontation with another Force user that had training no matter how little and was already known and feared.

Finn using the lightsaber well bothered me at first until I realized that stormtrooper training obviously covered melee weapons as well so I was okay with it after that.

not very well trained. he was kinda using the lightsaber more like a bat. he might not have recieved any lightsaber training. at least not from luke. also interesting his lightsaber has a cracked crystal (supposedly) thus why it sounds and looks different and why it needs the plasma vents/crossguards. which i still say are stupid. not crossguards themselves just that they could be used against him and someone he's fighting could cut through it.
