I'm still pissed at disney for getting rid of lucas arts. hell that was one of the first actions they made. I think EA is just producing it not actually making it but even so they'll probably screw it up somehow. because EA. I mean look at the command & conquer series when EA bought it from westwood. generals and tiberium wars weren't bad but twilight and red alert 3 are rather meh.
OMFG it's Battlefield in a galaxy far far away! So, if it was made by DICE then that's probably the new Frostbite engine, huh? The textures look just like BF3, gorgeous! EA will fuck it up by making sure the game is released as fast as possible, but if DICE is developing, I trust them to sort out any bugs that pop up after the game is inevitably forced to be released before it's ready. It may take a month or so before it's ironed out, so I know I won't be buying on release. Lol, learned my lessons from the last three Battlefield games. Hopefully, they won't use the fucking retarded ass browser based launchers. Just give me a fucking executable that I can stick on my task bar and call it good, m-kay?
very, very skeptical at this point. i'll admit my inner star wars fanboy squeed at the sound effects though and i've been eagerly awaiting each new update they've given us. i won't be preordering, that's for sure, will wait a bit post-launch to see if it's worthwhile... the below sniped from reddit [my comments after] From the german magazine gamestar: * 4 planets (Tatooine, Sullust, Hoth and Endor) [lol only 4] * Setting is Episode 4-6 [why do i suspect day1 DLC for more maps and episodes?] * no conquest mode [gdiwtf] * no space fights [gdiwtf] * no classes (you can choose equipment, but thers a weight limit) [finally something cool] * there can be one "boss" on each side e.g a sith or jedi (confirmed are Boba Fett and Darth Vader) [sounds about right] * no solo campaign, instead there are battlefront missions [meh] * only 20vs20 player fight... [absolutely laughable]
I think that info is a little out of date but this battlefront game is actually the 4th or 5th installmanet of the star wars battlefront series. I only do 4th or 5th because i'm not sure the 3rd one actually counts since it was made for mobile phones. The first and second ones were pretty good and fun.
probably because the second game (battlefront II) had stuff from episodes I-VI. So pretty sure there will be DLC fairly soon for the episodes I- III after release and probably episodes VII -IX as they come out (unless they just want to make another game for episodes VII- IX) and the second one had the space mission (and ground mission aircraft though I think the original had snowspeeders too) the classes thing I'm fine with and same with the boss thing. I'm guessing that is one boss at a time. not like 3 players all running around as the boss for that map (i'm assuming the "boss" character will be preset off map.) 20 vs 20 is kinda small. also why no campaign? that's kinda the big seller of star wars games. I forgot the original had prequel trilogy as well (truthfully I only played that one at a pc game place you know 20 or so computers with a bunch of games on them so I only played an hour or 2 of it).
Actually, both Battlefront 1 and 2 had Stuff from all six episodes. You could play as Clone Troopers, Rebels, Droids, or Empire in both installments. BTW, LucasArts just did SoundFX and such, while Pandemic did the developement on Battlefront 1 and 2. They were working on the third installment when they were bought out. It included things like Taking a figher/bomber/gunship/troop transport from the space battles above a planet, flying through atmo, and landing troops to fight in the ground battle. This EA take might be okayish, but nothing like the original games. Makes me sad... Oh wells, I still have the originals on Disc.
Well, it may also matter whether they have bots like in the earlier ones filling it out. 20 on 20 would seem to suggest fairly small map size.
20v20 wouldn't be bad if there were also masses of NPCs on each side to fill out the map. 100v100 with 20 of those on each side being players could be OK.
That looks amazing. It's essentially BF in the Star Wars universe. Won't be pre-ordering because EA, but may be picking it up day two.
No way in hell I will be pre ordering this. I am excited, but I was burned badly by BF3. If it is just going to be another BF3 with a new skin.. not sure I want it. If they slow things down more, make combat more tactical and more interesting.. I will think about it.
I fully expect the game to be filled with bugs and glitches with about 200 dollars worth of DLC on release day.
with no space combat or campaign it seems like a big step backwards from previous installments. and battlefront II I think the battles were generally 40 vs 40 (or more depending on map). but if the 20 vs 20 is only players out of 60 vs 60 that would be fine. so the total is more like 20 +40 (npc) vs 20 +40.
Are you being serious about no space combat or campaign? If so what a fucking joke. But like I said 200 dollars worth of DLC on release, there's your space combat and campaign right there.
with EA at the helm i suspect thats their entire goal. make it suck but you can make it fun with all the day1 DLC they'll have ...fuckers...
I've already decided I'm not spending any time or money on this. I'm done with EA, and no amount of shiny is going to bring me back.
Yeah, I'm starting tho feel the same. All the news lately has been about not having: No ADS, no space battles, no campaigns, no classes.... At this point it's going to be CS with polished graphics. Anyone remember this?
