Spoiler So I can't tell if the grey jedi / force thing is where they are going or not. I thought that was where they were going, where going too extreme toward the light or the dark caused an opposite rebound in the force, literally creating the force that would destroy you (ala Snoke's comment of the force created Kylo's opponent in Rey). Luke's rambling seemed to go that way with the Jedi being too proud and stagnant, but in the end, Rey has the Jedi books and wants to be a Jedi, and Kylo remains even purer Sith, so it seems to me they threw that out the window and kept the status quo at the end, even if they hesitated throughout the movie (in other thoughts the whole movie was simply about explaining everyone's place in this universe, which is what Rey so pointedly asked Luke near the start). 1) Rebel cruiser into imperial fleet at lightspeed was epic, that visual was one of the best I'd seen. Leia should've been on that ship though if anything, although they couldn't have a droid / autopilot do it? 2) Finn / Poe done get a lot of people killed, but I guess 'Failure is the greatest teacher' right Yoda? That basically applied to everyone in the movie. 3) Lot of people are bent out of shape that Snoke was eliminated that quickly without learning his motivations, personally I don't care as he wasn't that interesting in the first movie to me to start. There is always a Sith Lord, and they will eventually die by their apprentice. 4) I do think the 3rd movie will come down heavily to the personal relationship between Rey and Kylo. Since their together scenes were some of the best, I'm ok with that. My prediction is that Kylo will redeem himself at the end via some personal sacrifice,. 5) Lot of people also hate on Rose, I thought she was a good character in the sense of the Hero's Journey of becoming a legendary Rebel hero from just a lowly and scared tech. She wasn't there just for 'love interest.' 6) Why didn't Kylo / Rey use their force powers in the fight with the bodyguards? Here's my personal view on the force so far, just based on whats been in the movies. The force is a neutral, balancing force. Both sides, light and dark, try to exert too much control and twist the balance away from the middle, causing, much like physics, an opposite and equal re-action the other way. The Old Republic, with its grand Jedi order, made a massive shift toward Order/Light, which caused an equally massive correction to the Emperor, Darth Vader, the Empire and the new order, which caused a smaller correction to Rey, which will cause... etc, until you get closer to equilibrium. In short, the best thing a force sensitive person of good intent can do is not try to control the universe, but maybe just sometimes smooth out the extremes on both sides.
I think they did a good job, I have questions, of course, but if I didn't then that'd mean they did a terrible job XD, overall I liked it.
You people aren't supposed to like it! Criticize it, damn it! Tear it apart for having dust in the wrong places! Rip it a new pooper for not being like the empire strikes back! No enjoyment here!!!!!
I mostly enjoyed it. I feel that it would have been better received if TFA had never existed. Spoiler The force usage was mostly toned down a lot, making the characters feel more grounded. Rey could no longer do everything, Snoke's death was under whelming after being built up in TFA and Luke was a proper old hermit.
Saw it today. I liked it. The humor felt right to me (star wars did always have that kind of humor so I don't know why people are complaining.) Was much better than TFA.
Honestly I think why all the Disney star wars stuff has been okay/good but not great is they have too much to do with keeping everything straight between the movies, tv, games and books.
