Tabletop Gaming

Greetings Everyone,
I spoke with Magnus at length about some issues we have been having. He recommended we suspend play until the first of the year due to high stress and obligations over the holiday. He also suggested we make sure everyone shares the same understanding of expectations.

Included is a poll about what games everyone might be interested in playing. I have GMed a crazy number of systems and would be happy to GM just about anything. Currently, Pathfinder and Starfinder are the games of choice, but starting after New Year gives us an option to open that up.

As for myself, I am only really available Friday night. I know gaming for a few hours is rough, but I am tied up every weekend.

Tabletop Gaming Code of Conduct
Every player in tabletop gaming is an integral part of a team, including the GM. Other players are not adversaries and should not be considered as such. As a GM, I prepared for several hours per week and I assume every other GM has done the same. Therefore, it seems only appropriate that players contribute to the benefit of the game as well.

1. Be courteous about attendance. Be on time when you can play. Communicate with others if you cannot. I myself have had to miss several sessions due to my health or other obligations, but it is only fair to warn others several hours in advance.
   
2. Be prepared. Every gamer has homework. The GM has monsters to prep, plot to plan, maps to manipulate, etc. Players have characters to update, items to buy, and questions to ask. If you have a question about your character's development, it needs to be handled before the gaming session. Taking 30 minutes to ask a question is fine, unless you are taking 30 minutes from 5 other people.
3. Be functional. We all play to have fun, but disruptive behaviour is not fun for the other players or the GM. There is no reason you should be at a gaming table impaired. If you don't respect the other players and GM enough to give them your unimpaired attention, it is insulting.
4. Be productive. Help the game move along. This means not arguing with the GM at the table. If you feel the GM is mistaken, talk to him away from the game so that you don't waste the time of the others players. At the table, the GM has the task of moving the plot along and will make judgement calls that may prove incorrect later, but that call should be honored and respected to keep the game moving.

Breaking of the above Code causes other people to not enjoy the game. We all play to have fun, but each of us has other options available. If you are not willing to put your friends as a respectful priority, then it causes problems.

Magnus suggested kicking people from the game for disruptive behaviour. I feel that approach is accurate. The first offense should be removed for the night. The second offense should be removed from the game permanently. Keep in mind this can cause a game to fail due to lack of players. Not showing proper respect to each other wastes everyone's time and can and does kill tables.

Rule sounds good to me. One thing might want to add would be covering rule disputes, the GM has the word. If we need to retcon after the game, that's fine, but I'd rather just keep moving than get bogged down in a discussion of whether someone gets a +1 to their roll or not.

The last group wasn't too bad about that, but I've played in some that were. Might as well write it down.

And for reference, Starfinder is my preference at the moment, but I have rules for Pathfinder and Shadowrun, and I'm open to trying other stuff as well.

 

Added as point 4. I agree. I have been wrong before. I will be wrong again. And I have played with GMs who make mistakes as well. The game must go on.

 

I've been itching to try the Dresden Files that are collecting dust on my shelf, and I'm game for a great number of other games as the mood calls me

 

Unfortunately I cannot reliably do Fridays - more often than not, of late, I'm on a plane returning home in the eve.

 

We are constantly using roll20 with minis. This has been the case for Pathfinder, Starfinder, even MechWarrior and Shadowrun when we played them.

I saw Damion and Dresden Files. What other games are we interested in?

Also, I said I can't do Saturday or Sunday. That doesn't mean someone else can't GM and play something on those days. I figure we will pound out what we play then decide when we play (possibly multiples).

 

I would be interested in doing something with Tabletop simulator.

Anima: Beyond Fantasy is also something i'm interested in playing

 

For the sake of having everything on the table, there is a tabletop system that a bunch of friends and I have been playing over the last year (maybe even longer)

Kantai Collection has its own licensed tabletop RPG
For people with tabletop simulator, it also has a port (which has even expended on the base game)

 

I won't be using Tabletop Simulator for various reasons. I will be using roll20.

Magnus is also interested in having some RP aspects added to his Megamek campaign.

Starfinder is the clear majority. Pathfinder is up there, but I don't know how many people want to play which other games. Is it just a play anything vote? Is it specific to a system?

We will be starting early January, but the better answers Magnus and I get the more we can work out schedule and planning.

Does someone else want to step up and use Tabletop Simulator and run something?

 

only problem with tabletop simulator is the price tag, it exists. Might be a good idea for anyone looking to run a game to make a vote to determine both interest and the desired game, days of play might also be useful however it might be more efficient to do one or the other first and then go from there as some might be interested in one game but not have a shared day in which to play it, etc...

 

I can run something with tabletop simulator if there is interest for it. Personally, i'm mostly interested in the boardgames and not any rpg.

Who wants to run the whats and whens? (I don't have Dresden, for example, so not a good option for me to run it).

Minor edit. The reason I am approaching it this way is GM availability for whatever system is going to be critical.

 

Making the poll for the times the GM is available is ideal, doesn't do a whole lot of good to arrange a time for the players that doesn't work for the guy running the show XD

In my case, Friday is not ideal as I will be working that day for the foreseeable future. Sunday Monday and Tuesday are really the only options I have atm, I may choose to run a game at some point but at the current time there is simply far to much on my plate for me to consider doing so.

 

Fridays are the the only days I have conpletely open at this time. I could host tabletop simulator sometime between 13:00 and 18:00 EST. Could potentiall push a ltitle further but I want it to end before 20:00 EST.

So, options for the new poll would be:

Friday:
Play Tabletop Simulator with Aspius from 13:00 to 18:00 EST
Play Pathfinder with Demon from 19:30 to 23:00 East
Play Starfinder with Demon from 19:30 to 23:00 East

These are not mutually exclusive. If there is interest in Pathfinder and Starfinder, for example, we can alternate Fridays.

Other options that would tie in would include continuing previous campaigns or starting anew. Pathfinder is more relevant in this category as we only really just started in Starfinder.

Any other options and thoughts?
