Wondering if anyone else is watching this show. Has a very Star Trek TNG and Voyager feel to it. Its a Seth MacFarlane show so it has a bit of comedy. Episodes 3 to 5 as of right now is where it starts to really pick up with feeling like you just watched a episode of Star Trek. They also have a few trek vets from the old shows working on this too.

Yea, I've been watching it too. Really enjoying it. Like you said very TNG. It think it's even more "Star Trekkie" than the new Discovery series, discounting the Seth MacFarlane humor. The new Star Trek Discovery is also killing it though. Reeeally enjoying that. So much good space to watch right now! Now if 3.0 would just drop... :dbanana:

Is Discovery available on regular television, because I absolutely refuse to pay for their garbage service just to watch the one show.

I like it, the problem is it was touted as a spoof... which it is not. It actually is a genuine Star Trek-esque sci fi show with comedy thrown in. No, it is not always great comedy, but he does a pretty good job of it in the show. I just hope it doesn't suffer from false advertising.

I would like to watch ST Discovery, but I do not plan to subscribe to another streaming service. If it is not available on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon, I am not watching it.

I am liking it. The first couple episodes were great spoofs but now it is taking on more of a real star trek vibe with some comedy mixed in. I prefer the spoof/comedy myself but always good to have another space show.

If they wanted to make a spoof they shouldn't have thrown the Star Trek label on it, the originals weren't entirely serious either, but it worked as a positive forum for pointing out and discussing some of the issues of modern society in an abstract way that encouraged people to think about the problem rather than worrying about who is to blame for the problem in the first place. I like spoof shows too, Galaxy Quest is one of my favorites XD, Star Trek is just not the right IP to -be- the spoof.

Maybe if I can get a good idea of whether I'll like it I'll consider getting the box set when it inevitably gets released, I hope their stupid pay channel dies in fire though, I really don't want that becoming a thing. At least not at the price they're pushing it at, One channel for $6 a month? Go dunk yourself into a river of molten acidic tar and then feather yourself with porcupine quills and cacti.

Discovery is on CBS access I think it is called for the USA, and Netflix for everywhere else. Canada and mexico might be another streaming service. It is on Netflix because they paid for the first two seasons to be made. So if you live outside the US.. you just need netflix.

I view the crew of the Orville as being more real, like sure they follow the chain of command, but they are more human, and snarky. I would much rather have somebody who hears pizza party and wants to go, and like people who are just more human and open than up tight sticks.

I was confused by this too. I haven't had time to watch it, but all the ads promote it like some kind of Galaxy Quest for TV. I guess just chalk this up to another case of marketing sucking at their jobs. Hope the show does well regardless.

I like the show so far. Especially when they try to explain human stuff to bortus. Anyone else feel like the crew is the misfit crew? Like no one wants them but they are too good to just kick out of the fleet?

Its more a humorous homage than a spoof. It has some serious 'trek' moments punctuated by fairly crass humor, but its getting better as it goes along. I'd like to watch discovery but ain't signing up for that service.

We need more SciFi shows, as much as I want to watch Discovery I doubt I will get to unless it comes to one of the main streaming services. I think all of these content creators are going to end up fucking themselves over because they are spreading everyone too thin. Hulu is making a hard run at Netflix and almost everyone just has a Netflix account. I do not see that changing any time soon. En masse, people are not going to subscribe to 5 or 6 different streaming services.

5 or 6 services would be what $70 a month (not all all are $10). At that point you might as well get cable/sattellite tv.

Reminds me a bit of when we first had more than two consoles to choose from. Excluding hardcore gamers, how many people out there actually owned more than two systems? Owned more than one? Personally, I was solely a Nintendo kid up until the N64 was retired. For a short period of time after, I remember owning and playing a GameCube, PS2 and original Xbox. But it wasn't long after (the infamous "Ring of Red" debacle with the Xbox 360) that I decided to say "fuck it, I'll just buy a nice PC and ditch consoles altogether".

And during that whole time we saw the rise and fall of many consoles that just never went anywhere. Hell... who would have guessed in the nineties that Sega would get bought by Nintendo?

I could see something similar happening with all these various streaming services out there. There is definitely a max saturation point. I'm not sure what it is, but it wouldn't surprise me if we see it in the coming decade. As for myself, I barely have time for Netflix alone. My second choice would be Hulu. Beyond that, there's just not enough draw for me to buy a third service. If I need to watch it that bad, there is always the inevitable release of dvd boxed sets.
