It definitely does take a change of pace, but I'm rather fond of it. The second season definitely transitions into more character development than was previously emphasized. Whereas the first season had a great deal of it, it was compounded with a fair share of run-and-gun. The second season far less at this point. That's part of what really draws me to the series though. I am a huge fan of the idea of zombie-themed shows and games. It's always been a fascination of mine. The thing about them though is that the -vast- majority of zombie movies fall into one of two categories: the two hours of shooting, explosions, and mayhem (Dawn of the Dead being a prime example) or the comedic spin route (as taken by shaun of the dead or zombieland). The Walking Dead has such a great aspect to it because it's very much a drama but with a zombie theme. Rather than being a zombie series with character development in it, it is a series that focuses on character development with zombies in it.

It does slow down almost to a halt but it is worth it to get caught up. I have read the comic book and something really big is about to happen in season 2. If you don't want to watch the show, I recommend downloading the comic book or read the graphic novels in a Barnes & Noble or BAM(Books A Million)

Well i normally consider slowing the whole explosion thingy down for some character development a good thing in a drama. But what really bugged me about the second walking dead season, is that most of these new subplots are being resolved within the same episode and grinded the series even more to a halt. I mean donĀ“t get me wrong, i love the series and the whole zombie sub-genre, but that almost (but only almost) got me losing interest.
I'm quite fond of the last 3 episodes and the acceleration in overall pace they've created plus i consider the storytelling of the Tv-show superior to the comics in alot of ways. (Shane anyone? He's just badass and keeps the whole group dynamic thing nicely on edge, showing of that steady tension you would expect from a rag-tag group of survivors amidst the Zombie Apocalypse.)

Let's just hope they keep up the level of quality and sheer immersion into the post-apocalyptic setting and give us an end to the season with some mind-blowing finale, that'll have us beg for season 3.

Fucking hate it. Doesn't do the comics justice at all even though I know they are two different mediums. The pilot episode was fucking awesome and then it was an epic downturn from there.
