Had lunch with a friend in our IT department, they still haven't had any acceptable answers from Microsoft on the mandatory updates. What they have noticed is that if you have automatic updates enabled under Windows 7 or 8 it will download windows 10 to your drive and have it ready to go for you. If you have accepted the windows 10 upgrade to where the install is pending windows 7 will no longer update until you have installed 10 then removed it and gone back to 7.

I do know if you ignore updates on windows 7 (and i assume 8 and 10 now) for long enough eventually your windows will no longer be "genuine". updating does fix that. but windows 7 i had to go at least 4 months of not updating before that happened. 10 it's probably less. i think i've only gone 2 weeks before it came up (though i think it was just slow that day because it showed the product key a minute or 2 later).

Does Win10 also disable stuff like unsupported peripherals, like is it possible that it will think some new VR stuff or old joysticks etc. are 'pirate'?

Also, what about games? If I have a stand alone mod of a game, will it think it's a pirate? What about my own games? Will they even work or does it think they're pirate?

So windows did a update today and has since then windows has randomly decided to not recognize my razer keyboard that I have used for the past 2 years now.

I know they are starting to push some of the windows 10 stuff into 7 and 8 from what a friend of mine has told me so yeah..

theres that today I now have to deal with.

    I still use win7

FYI, a way to hide the "Upgrade to 10" icon and upgrade options:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351

We were under the impression that Win 10 would never be forced on our campus, however Microsoft has recently reneged on this promise with a current update. Long story short, I had to push these regedits through group policy to stop our clients from upgrading to Win10. :unamused:

went through and changed the update preferences for all my family's computers, seems it didn't take in all of them, had my mother's desktop start the upgrade uncommanded even after having set it not to. Thankfully she happened to sit down at it right as it started to try to do it. I was able to delay it long enough to get it to take the settings to not update and get out of the update for now. I'm not sure what microsoft is thinking with this update program, it sure isn't building any good will with their customers.

are you saying it tried to auto upgrade to win 10 while not actually agreeing to upgrade and tried to apply it as a "update"?

yes, in one of the latest updates it changed to an automatic upgrade to windows 10 unless you specifically go in and change settings of how updates are downloaded and applied. It will download on its own then pop up with one of those notices that your computer will restart in 15min unless you would like to postpone it for up to a couple of hours. Instead of restarting to update it says restart to start the upgrade to windows 10. There is no option to not upgrade, you have to go into the advanced option to reschedule, there you can select not to receive your windows update and you can finally get an x in the upper right corner to close the window out and stop the upgrade.
Amazingly my mother happened to sit down at her computer when the screen popped up and I happened to be home visiting them at the time to run down and get it canceled and the settings changed so that it would not force the upgrade for the time being until I can back everything up for her and then run it. There is wording in the thing saying that if you don't like windows 10 you can revert back to your old operating system, AFTER you have upgraded. I've heard of more than one corrupted upgrade, I'm not even going to venture to guess how many more corrupted when trying to downgrade the OS.

    Is this even legal?

this doesn't sound anywhere near being legal and sounds like they can be sued for hacking.

Don't worry, I'm sure you agreed to all of it in the EULA you accepted when you installed Windows. You did read that, right? :wat:

You must think I want to upgrade or be forced into it for what ever fucking reason.

its my choice whether I upgrade my OS or not. not some fucking company who doesn't own my damn computer.
