World of Warcraft: Classic

So, yeah, apparently this is going to be an official thing now. I might actually resubscribe, see what it's all about. Anyone care for a trip down memory lane?

I'm definitely gonna check it out. I didn't start playing until around when Ulduar landed so I'm looking forward to doing the vanilla raids when they're still current. It'll be nice to see the dungeons they gutted in Cata back to their old glory too.

Alliance didn't have shamans or those sweet drany butts.

I'm a Paladin.... I do not have this issue.

and now we know why blizzard made such a big deal about shutting down the vanilla servers.

 

It was actually just them doing their normal private server nazism. It's not the reason for Classic.

I'm trying to find it, but basically Mike Morhaime, sort of joking, said if enough people supported Legacy servers that they would make them. He obviously assumed that they wouldn't have that much support. Then the Nostalrius server, having something like over a million active accounts before it was shut down, called his bluff. After the server shut down the Nostalrius team met with Morhaime and the WoW dev team and they discussed the possibility of Legacy Servers. Blizzard said some bullcrap about polish, and the man hours needed to make Classic would take away from the real game. Some time after that Mike Kern, Ex Team Lead for WoW, said if the Legacy Server petition reached 200k signatures, he would personally go and bring it to the attention of Mike Morhaime and argue for Legacy servers. The petition got something around 800k signatures, and was pretty substantial. Mike Kern actually said he had Fed Ex print off every name on the the petition so he could physically hand it to Morhaime. After Kern took the petition to Morhaime, not much was heard until Classic was announced.

I'm sure I have some things wrong, but this is the general gist of the situation.

 

Though with this being new.

This is the chance to start totally fresh with a different class and race instead of my old main. Get to see it all from a totally different point of view.

And.. Holy crap the shaman totem quests are freaking insane. Traveling the world over.

That pissed me off so much... like how pretentious can you be?

 

We've finally got some hard info now. By my reading it'll basically be WoW 1.12, with some bugfixes, plus some changes for maintainability, but no real word yet about gameplay changes or what raids will be open at launch.

 

Also next week Light's Hope is launching their Northdale realm. Is anybody interested in goofing off there for a few months until the official vanilla realm launches?

 

Yeah, I'm planning on trying a Warlock this time around.

I'll look into this and let you know, provided I have any free time.

 

Huh... apparently I have a level 27 Warlock on Lightbringer. Remaking a character on Northdale though, because it's more populated. Why would they make another classic server if they already have one, though?

Just let me know if you're Horde or Alliance.

 

Evidently it's a progression reset thing, which is why the population is so much higher there. I never played Horde before Deathwing came along and wrecked everything, so what say we do that?

 

That works, was thinking of rolling a Shaman.
