What are your top three favorite fictional characters of all time, and why? They can be from anything, Video Games, Comic Books, Movies, Books, etc. I'll start:

    1: Deadpool (Marvel Universe)
I feel like I don't really need to explain this, but I will. Deadpool is hilariously awesome, not to mention he's an anti-hero which I tend to identify with more than your clear cut hero. He has, in my opinion, reached a level badassatude that few other fictional characters can match, also he's arguably the strongest motherfucker in the Marvel Universe. For people who aren't familiar with Deadpool, he's basically a gun wielding, sword touting immortal ninja with hyper regeneration powers. So, think Warframe Tenno without the space gear but invincible. Yeah, don't fuck with Deadpool.

2: Kreig, The Psycho (Borderlands 2)
Like his name suggests, this guy is down right psychotic. Allow me to put into perspective how bat-shit crazy this guy is. His favorite past-time, aside from brutally murdering people with his trusty buzz-axe, is riding meat bicycles. Yes, you read that correctly, "meat bicycles," as in bicycles made of meat, usually human. BUT, for all this guys psychotic rampaging and slaughtering, he's physically incapable of harming an innocent. There's a powerful voice of sanity within his head that keeps him from killing anyone but the deserving. Remember earlier how I said I like anti-heroes? Oh, he's also Tiny Tina's father, which explains where she gets the crazy from.

3: Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI)
Where to start with Kefka... well let's start with the fact that this dude is down right evil. Sorry, no anti-hero here. He's a psychopathic nihilist with absolutely no regard for human life. At one point he mind controls Tera Bradford (a player character) and forces her to burn 50 innocent men and women alive. But, that's not why I like this dude. I like him because he's the only villain in the ENTIRE Final Fantasy series to successfully destroy the world, and he does this while being a mortal human being. Every other villain usually has some kind of edge, such as being a demigod, or a super soldier, or some foreign race superior to human beings. Not Kefka, this guy starts as a normal human being, ascends to the levels of a god and ultimately destroys the planet. I would say don't ever get on his bad side, but he's all bad side.

Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files - he's a cynical bastard but he does the job that needs to be done. One of the best written book series I've ever read.

Sam Vimes from the Discworld series - same kind of thing as Dresden.

Tyrion Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire - a character that grows on you as you encounter him more. At first you think you hate him until you start to see things through his eyes and see the reasons for why he does things the way he does. Plus seeing Peter Dinklage portray the character on TV is pure awesome.

Kefka gets an honorary mention as my favorite Villain ever. When I first played that game his level of evil blew me away.

    #1. Jack "Lucky Jack" Aubrey
One of the protagonists of the Aubrey/ Maturin series of books, as well as the 2003 Russel Crowe film Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World. Jack Aubrey is a surprisingly multi-dimensional character: a scholarly gentleman in some ways , but a bumbling fool in others. And always, he has a heart for adventure and duty to his friends and family. This is a man who spent his prize money to build an observatory at his home, and even enjoyes mathematical problems, particularly anything involving sine/ cosine, but is often foolhardy with women and money, somehow lacking the tact of other "great" men. But he's a tenacious opponent and a vicious fighter whose duty always comes first. He's a good-hearted badass who will wreck your ship, run you through, and then retire for toasted cheese and music with his best bro Dr. Maturin

    #2. Captain America (Steve Rogers)
Note: this is based off of the movies, not the comic books, so I make no reflection on the actual characters from the comics
Unlike many other superheroes (not all), Rogers was actually courageous and strong BEFORE he was given power. Plus, he's just a great guy.

#3. Ragnar the Fearless (The Last Kingdom, by Bernard Cornwell)
The Ultimate Viking. Ragnar has been all over the world, and killed someone in every country. He's a benevolent, jolly Earl who is your best friend in the Drinking Hall, but your worst enemy on the battlefield. He will cut your head off and never bat an eye or wipe the huge grin off of his face until you give up the gold. The dude is crazy, violent fun.

    1. Mairon or "the admirable" - Though he started as a minor being of the Ainur race, he will later become known as Sauron, the main antagonist of the LotR. He joined Melkor's rebellion against the original creator's plan. To stray from the original plan, or free will, became what is know as evil. Marion was tempted by, evil due to his appreciation of order. Tolkien noted that "it had been his virtue (and therefore also the cause of his fall ...) that he loved order and coordination, and disliked all confusion and wasteful friction." Thus "it was the apparent will and power of Melkor to effect his designs quickly and masterfully that had first attracted Sauron to him." His appreciation of order and efficiency was always something I could relate to.

    2. Galactus - The devourer of worlds. Though he appears to be an all powerful being he is nothing more than a force of nature set to correct the imbalances between Eternity and Death. It parallels how we generally go about our lives without any concern of lesser species, such as insects, and non sentient life. I think it's nice to be reminded of our insignificance on a universal scale. Galactus reminds us of this.

    3. Loki - Yes, the god of mischief. He could be such a nuisance and instigator. While at times, mostly after getting caught in the act, a giver of gifts: Sif's golden hair, Mjolnir, Gungnir and Sleipnir (I'll spare you the details). I feel he is an analogy of what drives us in life; the desire to not become complacent and achieve better things. By taking life(i.e. Loki) by the neck and slapping him around you can achieve gifts. Just be prepared to answer for them later on.

    1. Thomas Covenant - from Stephen R. Donaldson's - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever (starts with Lord Foul's Bane. a very early fantasy anti-hero, leper (learn about leprosy kids!) and ethical conundrum - I mean if you believe you're dreaming, and you rape somebody...

    2. Logen Ninefingers - From Joe Abercombie's The First Law series (starts with The Blade Itself) - a guy from the barbarian north that tends to be very pragmatic and sometimes even borderline cowardly, almost a skulker/rogue is his initial mindset portrayal, but when his trigger gets tripped becomes a total beserker feared by all. The series as a whole is great, think Game of Thrones but dial the violence to 11.

    3. Sherlock Holmes - why not - so many interesting incarnations in various media nowadays.

This was a really really hard one!

    1. Deadpool, of course. Nothing to add here.

    2. Artemis Entreri, originally from R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt Do'urden series. Bad ass assassin and only mortal swordsman to be a match for Drizzt. Eventually gets his own side trilogy called the Sellswords and it was awesome.

    3. Rose Lalonde, from Homestuck. Snarky and witty, somehow balances being a serious character and funny at the same time. Once was possessed by the eldritch gods for the outer ring in order to gain the power to kill the monster that killed her mother. Didn't work out to well though.
