I play classic Battletech in theory but don't actually have anyone to play with because I just moved here. I've been playing for 32 years. with no real activity in the last 10 years. I've built and lost an army of mechs twice and now I am on my third army. I have about 100 mechs now. I'm getting back into it now in part because one of my kids is interested in it and I'd like to share it with him. just learning Alpha strike. What are you looking for from this community? First I'd like to be able to open the weapon conversion files from BT to alpha strike, that's how I found this place. Also I'd like to meet other Battletech players, especially in the Atlanta area. I just moved here and don't know any. How did you hear about the Skjaldborg? I followed a link to open a weapon conversion table to convert my custom mechs to Alpha strike. It seems I have to be a member here to see the files...? What do you feel you will bring to the community? another battletech player/painter. I'll probably log in and check a few posts and message once week. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being very casual, and 10 being very hardcore what is your ATTITUDE? That depends on bunch of factors. I think I'm pretty hard core in a lot of ways but not so much in my gaming habits. gaming wise probably a 3? I did get only 5 hours of sleep a night for the past 2 weeks because I've been painting and modifying mechs every night. How many hours per week do you estimate you play online games? zero. I don't play online games at all. What time zone do you normally game in? eastern Please give any other information you might think is useful for us to know. In Battle-tech I have the need for speed. I enjoy picking apart an assault mech slowly in a cat and mouse game with a few light mechs. oh wow, a TT junkie! That's cool. we have lot of people who have TT minis for battletech (and lots of other war games, 40k is a big one). I myself have...I have been informed by my lawyer it would be ill advised to promote such numbers where my wife could read them. Do you have a preferred faction? I am betting you can guess who most of us back in a fight lol. Do you have any other gaming interests? Like i mentioned we play many other games in tabletop and PC/console form. Are you up for trying any Mechwarrior games? (MW5 is pretty solid, most complaints here are because we have 30 years in the franchise lol) Battletech is pretty faithful TT rules (few changes here and there). 1) I watched my brother play star craft for too damn long and it reaffirmed my decision not to play online games. don't remember the factions. 2) uh.. I don't follow politics in the Capelan Confederation. 3) The acrylic clear I bought way too much of is trash. and smells like acrylic. 4) Not sure what all that means, but I am into the idea of tabletop simulators. like the alpha strike one I see going on here and Would def be into online turn based BT. Especially if it means I can play with my old playmates that I left behind in MS 15 years ago. 5) 7
I started Jade Falcon because I read the Jade phoenix trilogy. (I haven't read any other BT fiction.) My Galaxy got stolen by by best friends land lord and I had a bunch of IS minis from the original box set so I said my character went awol left for dead in back water Lyran teritory on Barcelona and started over. as IS which I find to be much more fulfilling. These days I have started playing for the red team and am in the process of building up some Combine forces. It's the first time I ever really cared about being "Canon". Before IS or Clan was specific enough for me. I'm not that well versed in the lore. I just learned enough to make my own campaigns have an interesting story. I don't really have other gaming interests. I have a pretty bust life (three kids, wife, business owner, fraternity) and only even make time for BT at the expense of sleep. I don't even watch tv. I love the mechwarrior games in theory but content myself with some youtube clips. I played the MW on Super NES, mechwarrior 3050 on sega genisis , MW2 on PS. Mech Assault on the first Xbox... I think I fell of the wagon about there. That's about when I quit video games altogether. there isn't enough time in my lifespan to finish what I've already got on my plate. I am on discord though not for gaming and can post pics. I'm assuming you mean of minis. I'm not a world class painter or anything .but here's what I did this week.
1) I'm guessing that's a WOB reference? Life on Barcelona hasn't changed much. 2) I started in 3025 so the Marauder 3R will always have my heart... but I have a level three mod of every mech I own. Most of those however favor the original lower heat energy weapons. I never really moved on past the civil war. I have the weapons from the heavy metal mech designer but I usually apply filters to cut off at 3062. I am suiting up a company now to be all C3 units which I never really messed with much before. I cut my teeth on force building in Jade falcon where such cowardly gangbang tactics were frowned upon. My latest custom is high tech I guess the BST-666 Beast/ 80 tons 5/8/5 with masc a supercharger and a partial wing. 2 LL, 2 MXPL, 2 ERMLs. Yeah.... an assault mech that can outrun the Locust. that's what's up. 3)uh... Marcus Aurelius... Gluteus Maximus... I don't follow politics in the Capelan Confederation.
One year my mom got locked up and My sister took over Thanksgiving. She made the biscuits so hard that they were inedible and I took them out in the back yard and started knocking them out of the yard with a baseball bat. She cried... I would be one of those biscuits... or biscotti, a favorite of Marcus Aurelius, if that counts.
That's cool. and lets be fair, you paint better than me. We have an open and active discord server if you wanted to check it out. After 10 or 11 years we have branched out slowly into other games as well as Battletech/Mechwarrior so we are more of a gaming community than a singular battletech merc company/clan. So you will see a few different games being played but most all of us have roots in BT and can speak for hours and hours on builds, tactics, abuse of TT rules, why purple mechs are harder to spot (cross gaming contamination!). Things like that. Also we don't really have discord usage requirements so random once a quarter questions or gripes are completely legit.
