So... I'm trying out lots of different types of beer to find out what I like and share my experience here, because I have no else to bother with it.

Every week, I'm buying a six pack of beer and going through them one every day, and I'm just going to post what I think in this thread, and giving an arbitrary number stars because I feel like it.

Feel free to comment and suggest.

    Week 1

Killian's Irish Red: Nice flavor, not as bitter as some of the stuff I've tried. ***

Yuengling Lager: Very nice. Soft flavor, goes down easy. I actually enjoyed this one. ****

Sam Adams Pilsner: The only one I couldn't finish. Got through two swallows and the rest went down the sink. *

WarSteiner: I really like this one. This is probably the best ale I've tried so far. Good flavor, went down well, and wasn't bitter. ****

Moosehead: Not much to say about this one. It was okay. ***

New Castle Brown Ale: Not bad. I prefer the WarSteiner for Ales though. A little bitter. **

Once you feel up to it, give some Tripels a try. They are sweeter, much higher gravity (8-10 abv) but they are one of my favorite beers. Victory's Golden Monkey stands out as one of my favorite Tripels. This is one of the strongest at 9.5 abv.

With that said, one of my absolute favorite beers is a Belgian amber ale Rare Vos from Ommegang, it is not super high gravity at 6.5 abv. I cannot recommend it enough. Last time I was at the beer festival I spent half the time I was there drinking Rare Vos.

If you couldn't tell, I love Belgian beers.

any nut ale is supposed to be bitter. at least the nut brown ales (though I have never seen a non brown nut ale.) Newcastle is decent though I prefer smauel smith's nut brown ale.

Tonight's Beer is Dieselpunk Porter, and holy shit this stuff is strong. VERY nutty taste, with a lot of hops flavor. I bought this purely because of the label, but damn, I don't know. Maybe I'm just not used to stronger hops yet.

    2 Stars.

[edit] Make that 1 star, it went down the sink

    I'd also recommend Gulden Draak.

About 5 and a half months ago, I brewed a batch of this based off of a clone recipe. After letting it age for months, I put it in the keg and tried it. Best beer I've ever brewed. It is really strong (I didn't quite have the right equipment to handle the large grain bill and had to adjust temperatures and water values causing a slight jump in ABV in the final product. I hit 16%). A small glass of mine will cause a pleasant buzz.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've got a pretty good list for next time I get to the package store.

Today's Beer is Honey Brown Lager. I liked this quite a bit. The honey makes it a little sweet, and the taste came out better for it. Only 13 proof, so it isn't very strong.

    3.5 stars

Most anything from Blue Point brewing company is good, if you've never tried 'em.
