Okay. So, how do we differentiate between regular and Lancer for RA? Special gear like Void signature, xxl engines? The experimental stuff?

RA makes an XL 240, I may try fitting that on my 20 ton Scout.

good question. regular army use of Targeting Computer would be rare (see previous post update). regular army units would not be required to have jump jets. XL engines would probably only be used by Support class mechs as they are the least likely to take significant casualties. regular army units would also use exclusively Clan Tech whereas their LancerMech counterparts may use any technology. oh yeah... and regular army units NEVER use Triple Strength Myomer.

safe to say most of the high end experimental stuff would not be used by regular army units. you would not be wrong to think the regular army is roughly equivalent to front-line Clan forces during the 31st century.

and just to be clear to everyone, we are talking about RAVEN ALLIANCE regular mech forces here

    Righto! That clarifies for me.

Got my name for the Scout, the Jackdaw.
Gonna have a slower, cheaper version for the regular, and a one off zomg expensive one to show what it can do for a Lancer.

I kinda wanna be RA now... Relive those Reunification days.

i updated the post above. the reason for no XL engines for scouts is that their primary function would be to survive first contact and return alive to report their findings. combined with their high casualty rate (as with all recon forces), XL engines on Scouts would be extremely costly.

However, for LancerMechs... price is not a problem.

    Also:

    LOUD REMINDER TO EVERYONE!

JUST BECAUSE THE RAVENS GET ALL THE COOL TOYS, IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU WILL WHEN WE START! :)

As with any game, there needs to be some goals for players to shoot for.

Ouch... That's gonna hurt top speed. Okay, I'll get to work!

Also, design quirks. What are the rules?

    Edit: Here is my plan!
Locust engine to get me to 8/12, MASC for sprinting, torso cockpit for added survival, endo, Ferro for weight savings, partial wing, as many jumpies as I can manage. Whatever is left is mission specific pod space

Getting a jump start on some other faction's armies, some suggestions for regular army and lancer mechs

    Rasalhague Dominion:
Regluar army - mixed tech Rasalhague battlemechs (left over from old Comstar stockpiles?)
    - Crab
    - Gunslinger (rare)
Lancer mechs - Clan Ghost Bear Clan Omni-mechs
    - Kodiak II (rare)

    Free World Confederacy:
Lancer mechs - Left over WoB omni-mechs (Did WoB still create those omni-mechs in this timeline?)

well another way of looking at it is if they need something faster than 8/12, they might as well use hovercraft or aerial assets.

design quirks will totally be incorporated and WILL be mech class specific (generally speaking)

the design looks pretty solid. i can't guarantee anything beyond what has already been established, but i like it :)

Partial Wing is OP for a 20 tonner. 1 ton gives you 2 hexes more of jump and 3 heat dissipation

let's not get ahead of ourselves. for the timebeing, the campaign is limited to the factions in and around Antallos: Draconis, Federation, Ravens, and the Independents. I definitely want to flesh out the other factions later, but for now it is just these four.

It is too difficult to explain fully why I picked this region of space, but I will explain that as soon as possible in the timeline. Suffice to say that Antallos is an extremely important trading hub. It is a neutral zone that sees all manner of intrigue.

Also, while the Rasalhague Dominion is less likely to have a stake in this region, the Jarnfolk would be very interested in Antallos: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Jarnfolk

Ah OK, I see. In that case, I foresee Draconis Lancer pilots to be very partial to the Viroblade?

very likely, but again, that can vary from pilot to pilot with Lancers :)

possible choices for official Raven designs:

    LancerMechs:

Deimos OR Omen - rare LancerMech (75 tons)
    [IMG] -OR-[IMG]
Why?... because "fucking badass" that's why! I'm partial to the Omen because the name is more fitting for the Ravens. The two designs share many similarities. It is likely they could have been merged into a single design when armies began to streamline. EDIT: the Omen is a second-line mech. Deimos it is!

Goshawk - common LancerMech (55 tons)
Why?... confirmed that it was being built in old RA territory as of 3086. Also: "55 tonners are OP".

    Regular Mech Forces:

    Kodiak - assault (70 tons)
Why?... the Ravens got this chassis from the Bears when they moved to the Inner Sphere (the two can be considered allies). the Ravens are also well known for being particularly aggressive with their orbital drop insertions. I can't think of a better mech to drop on the head of your enemies!

    Vulture - support (60 tons)
Why?... another gift from the Bears. classic support mech.

    Clint - scout (30 tons)
Why?... the Ravens don't have many locally produced designs. this is one of the few they have that fits the scout mech profile.

  16. I looked at the Deimos but threw it out for being too heavy. Didn't think about simply re-sizing it.......

    Light bulb ON!

Remember that this is so far in the future, the modern designs don't necessarily have to share a lot in common with their ancestors. It's kind of like how some present day militaries will reuse the same name of historically significant war machines.

The Kodiak for example should still be a "fast brawler with a big gun", but (with the changes in warfare doctrines) 75 ton mechs have become the "new 100 tonners".

    Query.

Not supposed to use mixed tech for the Regular Mech units, but can I make an exception for using a small cockpit on the Jackdaw? Need that extra ton.

Edit: Still deciding if I want to use a small cockpit or just drop the wing, might make it cheaper to go that route... Really don't need the extra heat dissipation.
