Yea, watching through that the other day, I couldn't help but notice how none of hose portraits looked much like current heroes we had. Much excite.
Beta weekend was a blast for me. I tried out most heroes, excepting a few support heroes (not really my thing, and I don't intend to play it all that often). Personally I found myself favoring Pharah and Tracer quite a bit on offense. Defense wise I did a fair bit of Widowmaker and Mei, but depending on the map I still ran Tracer and Pharah. I did a fair bit of tanking as well, but it probably won't be my focus when I'm left with an option. Games go super fast by and large, and it's crazy how different adjustments in the team compositions can change how a map plays. Despite the wide variety of heroes and abilities, it seems in a pretty balanced state overall. Ton of fun. I can't wait until launch. Also, here's another short they released a couple of weeks back
Eh. I played for two beta weekends, I'm honestly already starting to feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again. This is a game that will be fun if you can play with people you know and actually use characters and strategies together. Jumping into a pub match, already over it. Its weird how little variety there is in the game even though there are so many characters. Maybe thats just me. I just feel like I've already played this game before.
Most moba type games are like that. I just think of it as WoW but you only get to do 5v5 arena battles. At least wow has a ton load of PVE to role back on.
I originally meant to correct you for calling it a MOBA-type game, or for implying that the lack of having PvE content was somehow a shortcoming in an arena shooter, but then I saw that you, "just think of it as WoW but you only get to do 5v5 arena battles." If you don't even know enough about the game to know that it is 6v6, it's apparent I can't expect you to be informed enough on the game to hold you accountable to the laundry list of errors you make in trying to base your expectations for gameplay and structure off of MMOs and MOBAs.
I've seen enough that I know it's going to get repetitive. 5v5 arena battles because I was referring to wow. They go by 2, 3 , and 5 person groups and they are both blizzard games. Who gives a crap if you can swap characters when you die. You still only have a limited set of skills and characters in a pvp environment. The fun is going to go down after a while because the amount of combos are currently limited by the characters and there skills. Maybe when they have 20 to 25 more characters it will start to get interesting.
Overwatch is not a MOBA-styled game. They share heroes that have access to abilities. That is it. If that's the definition you're using for a MOBA, you may as well rope Rainbow 6 siege and TF2 in there too.
Moba has changed over time. It no longer just means games like dota or league of legends. Most of them are based around the concept of a map that has lanes, two groups, most have minions that are sent down those lanes, with the goal of destroying a base. The problem now is that this concept is changing with either taking the minions out, creating new win mechanics, and now being 3rd or 1st person. Like paragon, battleborn, and now overwatch.
Well, MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Which means there are alot of games that can qualify for that but if we take what is considered to be the norm for a MOBA. Overwatch is not near that. Current game modes are Escort and assault. A third one exist that is a combination of both. In Escort you push a cart across the map. In Assault you either try to capture or defend checkpoints. Look at Team Fortress 2 and you will find both of these. Is it that the game have heroes with abilities that make it into a MOBA? Then alot of games have that. This game should be defined as an arena shooter and not a MOBA. Again, you should be comparing Overwatch with Team Fortress 2 and not something from a different genre.
Well then what would it then be called considering there are now mobas that are 3rd person like paragon and first person like battleborn. Need only ask a few questions Is it Multiplayer only Is it Online only Are you fighting other online opponents only Could it be called a arena, map, battleground that fighting only happens inside... Well if you have a better idea of what this games genre is supposed to be?
Rainbow 6 confirmed moba TF2 confirmed moba Rocket League confirmed moba Day Z confirmed moba God damn, you're right; this genre really has taken off.
Day Z is a open world environment that takes place over many kilometers square, with zombies as the main enemy. Rocket league isnt a moba, its a soccer game with cars that can do crazy stunts. TF2 is a online multiplayer shooter with hats Rainbow six is a online multiplayer shooter thats supposed to simulate real life. Also another defining aspect of a moba. Players fill specific roles, such as melee or ranged damage/fighters, tanking, healing/support. but overwatch doesnt have anything of that either i guess. oohhh wait..
And thats why they call me... Fun-Taker im just trying to figure out what genre is actually falls under
