There were Moor's who did have trade runs into the region from the silk road during that time period, so they have the barest truth to fasten their dumb ideas on. I like the game, and there shouldn't be a surrender to the baying hounds, but if they had included an exotic merchant or some such event, it would also have been historical.
Been playing for about 25 hours now and ran into my first major bug. The "A Bird in Hand" side quest is bugged. When I turn it in, I get stuck in an endless animation loop. I was reading on the forums that if you saved your game after getting the quest but before turning it in, you will be affected by the bug. Some have had issues with the bird cages disappearing or not being able to pick them up after the bird is caught in it. So if you get this mission, do it immediately and do not save until after you turn it in. Plenty of smaller bugs, mostly collision related, but normally nothing too game breaking. Occasionally, an NPC is bugged but you can reload and it is usually fixed. One thing that angers me is that I ended up killing a Townsman in the woods outside of Rattay, and now all the villagers hate me. There was nobody else around to see but somehow they knew, but the guards leave me alone, and some of the traders still talk to me but others don't. Its frustrating.
I'm trying really hard not to play this like Skyrim where I stole everything that wasn't nailed down. So I've decided that I will only steal from shitty people. I don't think there's anything left of value in Rattay...
Between poaching with almost reckless abandon on the king's lands, grave robbing, and looting the dead bodies of countless slain bandits, I am doing quite well for a blacksmith's son. I don't think I own a single piece of equipment that was purchased legitimately.

Not sure if anyone else found this but theres a camp along side the road going NE from Neuhof. Spoiler: Loots Theres a chest there that was unlocked. It contained a lot of high end gear. A full set of knightly plate armor, a high level sword, a steel axe, and a pick, plus some money. Definitely helped me out.
It is. I stumbled on it too, then found the map later on the wiki when I looked to see if it was a bug or something.
Cannot confirm if its a bug or intentional, but one of the treasure maps I bought led to a collapsed mine entrance with no treasure to be found. What's interesting is that I checked a youtube video to see if they had the same result and no... not only was the entrance not collapsed, but the treasure was still there. Very strange, but kind of cool if these treasures are somehow randomized (at least in terms of if they are already looted or not). Or maybe some are closed to you until you reach a certain point in the game? Honestly, I can't really be that mad if this is intentional because every treasure map I've used I then sold back to a merchant being all like "oh yeah, this map totally still leads to buried treasure".
I think I know which one you mean, it's actually really deceptive where that one is located. If you have the DLC "treasures from the past" then you should have some treasure maps on you when the game starts.
Maybe we are talking about two different ones. I search every square corner and never found the treasure. Just as described.
