Anyone else playing this? 60 dollars aint cheap on steam, but for a production beta... its pretty nice. Fallout tactics-ish, with maybe a little more humor.

you get to custom make a full party (they definitely can stand to add more options for faces etc) and/or put together party from some of the premades. even with a party of four its hard to cover all your bases for combat specialties and non combat specialties for skills - this game is definitely going to have replay value even in its current version let alone later on.

I find the second video on the steam sale page (which used to be on the kickstarter page) hilarious and very much in the spirit of Chris Roberts, with a parody of the developer pitching the game to a modern gaming company.

I backed it on kickstarter so I will be playing it, but I was/am unwilling to spend more just to get into the beta.

Backed it on KS but not enough to get beta. I don't mind anyway since I'd rather play the final version through as it's story driven.

    Dudes (and ladies)!

Check your inbox if you backed the game, they're opening it up to all backers so we can dink around in the Beta leading up to the full launch. Woo!

Cool that they opened it up to all backers, but I would rather just wait for the full release.

Same. I just need to make sure I remember to install it sometime today. Although since Shadowrun: Dragonfall: Director's Cut just came out today, it'll probably be a few days before I try it out.

Very excited here, too! And their other project Torment is looking awesome (video released yesterday). Everything's coming up RPGs,

Finally got around to giving it a go. So far, very good! A couple tips: first, unless you are making a character who is going to focus on melee, make sure to give each character at least one point in a firearm skill of some sort since characters start with the weapons in which they are skilled. Second, before leaving the starting area, there's a particular character you should talk to. She's to the left of the door out of the zone, and she's a level 14 character who will join your party (temporarily I think, though she's still with me a couple hours in). I did not do either of these when I first started, and—while on the lowest difficulty—got absolutely obliterated in my second combat encounter.

Played through the first mission arc of sorts that takes you to the Ag Center/Highpool areas (this is not really spoilers you get this very early on).

    Impressions:
Game is fun so far, writing, environment, atmosphere are all good. I have some gripes about combat and the UI, but nothing that would warn me away from people, in some ways it plays very similarly to the original 2 fallouts (which I guess is the point).

    Combat:
Positioning is key, cover matters. If you just stand out in the open taking pot shots you'll get slaughtered quick. Worst enemies I've come across so far are tanky animals that are hard to put down and run up right into your face. There's no good defense for it and you encounter them fairly often (GODDAMN HONEY BADGERS). Then it becomes a fun game of 'kite the animal' while everyone else fires at it for 10 rounds.

Ammo is scarce on some ammo types, if you build a party, make everyone have a different weapon ammo type (so assault rifle, handgun, shotgun, energy, melee, sniper, etc.) The more ammo types your party uses the less you'll be scrounging constantly for ammo. I keep running out of .38 cal handgun/submg ammo.

Assault rifles at low levels suck. SMGs are great (at low levels, again). Shotguns, meh. Blunt not bad. Handguns are pretty good but low damage, sniper rifles are great but can't be fired at something closer than 4 squares. Distance matters on accuracy, some guns can't fire point blank some can't do far away.

Each character like Lochlan said should have at least 1 weapon proficiency. Its looking from my early play you can focus on 4-5 skills per character, although 4 seems better for getting up to higher levels.

Toasters are everywhere, haven't found any useless skills yet.

Have a main surgeon/first aid person and a backup. Backup is a must. If your main goes down he/she is dead without a backup.

    World interaction:
Each skill you have can be put on the hotkey bar to use. So can usable items. You have to use a skill against an item in the world to use it, there's no 'auto click' and have the system figure out whats applicable. This makes you have to think on what will work, but also gets cumbersome because you have to select the right character to select the right skill. Not too bad with hotkeys (F keys to select character, number key to select skill).

    Lots of flavor text everywhere

Dialogue trees are pretty full. The 'type in a keyword' interaction seems buggy though, it doesn't sometimes allow me to type.

Looks like multiple playthroughs will be pretty different, even judging so far from highpool/ag center you can see how choices will play out.

I also missed the starting character at ranger center, probably would've helped. I believe you can have up to 7 total characters in your group, your core 4 are your party. The additional NPCs can go rogue in battle and do what they want, leadership skill helps that (but have to be close)

    Conclusion:
So far happy I backed this on Kickstarter. I'd give it a 8/10, combat can be a little bit of a slog sometimes especially since I don't do a lot of damage right now, but it feels a Fallout game, some humor in places and a lot of references back to the original Fallout if you care to read the history.

Yeah! Played this over the weekend and it's scratching my Fallout / Tactics itch. I went to the Ag Center and now up to Rail Nomads so not far into things. I've been conserving a ton of ammo using melee/brawling with ranged as more of a backup skill for now.

This is not a game for completionists! It's damn near impossible to get all of the utility skills spread across your party, so there are going to be at least a few things you're just no good at. Bums me out, but I'm getting over it. So far the writing has been entertaining and the combat satisfying... Lots more to explore!

Been doing some reading and it sounds like the game takes 40-60 hours to play through which is pretty impressive. Got a long way to go...

Oh, and I totally cocked up the rail nomad feud my first go-round. Apparently resolving bloody class warfare requires more finess than my usual "get the foozle" approach to RPGs. You've been warned!

I went highpool first, my ag center experience was probably a little differnet.

I ran into a totally random side map to the west of ag center where you have to help some miners with a cave in (totally optional side quest). Running into really tough animals for my level, seems I maybe here early. Rail Nomad was my next destination.

My team has all the utility skills so far I think, with 7 people I don't think its an issue.

EDIT: GODDAMMIT I JUST REALIZED I SPENT 30 MINUTES KILLING HONEYBADGERS WHEN I COULD'VE JUST ANIMAL WHISPERED THEM TO OBTAIN UBER ALLIES.

FYI I already have a train of cows following me around for no good reason (animal whispered them) and got the 'cattle drive' message pop up, I just did it for fun, apparently its a thing.
