Well it is finally coming out on February 25 in North America . Looks like it is going to be a good game . That you don't have to be on line to play and with no multiple player

So far I've loved all three of the Thief games... Let's hope it lives up to the pedigree! Now they just have to make a sequel to System Shock 2...

Love thief, wary of this one. The devs originally had an xp system, QuickTime events, headshot bonuses, etc, that weren't really in like with thief games (plus a supernatural see everything through walls vision). They've apparently back tracked from those a bit, but ill wait for reviews

I want the essence of Deadly Shadows with modern graphics and a fresh story. I am skeptical as well.

Well with all the let downs we have had with resent reboots of games . I have a bit of a soft spot for this one but it really did set the stage for the other sneak games splinter cell and the like

Pretty much sums up why I, too, will be waiting for reviews.

Been looking forward to Thief since last E3, however I likely won't get around to purchasing it for a few more months.

I had been aware of the old Thief games for years but never got the chance to play them. Though the upcoming game is supposed to be a re-imagining of sorts, with such an esteemed series I feel obligated to play the old games first to better appreciate their history, so I bought the Thief complete bundle on Steam during the Winter Sale and plan to steadily play through them over Spring Break in a few weeks. I stumbled into the similarly-respected Deus Ex series when Human Revolution came out and later found it a bit hard to go back and play Deus Ex given the significant advances in graphics and gameplay since.

Wouldn't mind hearing what you guys think of the new game, though would appreciate keeping any spoilers to a minimum. :)

PC gamer thought it was all right, and RPS's Wot I Think was pretty positive too. But the Hivemind had already decided that it was going to be bad, so of course it'll get mostly bad reviews now, regardless of how it is on its own merits.

"All Right" is, in my opinion, not acceptable from a AAA developer with a AAA budget for an IP that has previously set precedence in its genre. Hell, the Thief series pretty much invented the stealth adventure game! I didn't want more of the same, I expected this game to innovate the genre, and I was certainly fine with aspects of the game being modernized, as long as the Thief atmosphere was maintained, but they didn't even get as far as more of the same. This looks like an unpolished Dishonored, and that's giving it a lot of leeway. It's just your diluted modern AAA formula of dazzling graphics + B-rated action movie story line, with game play and atmosphere an afterthought. Unfortunately, the Thief name and high profile will carry this game to financial success, and the cycle will propagate in new ideas and more of our beloved games from the past will fall victim. Square Enix has been publishing steaming piles lately, hopefully they turn it around like they did with FFXIV:ARR.

Again, this is my opinion on this game and where we're heading with AAA titles. I play lots of games, I feel passionate about my roots, but I realize I'm certainly in the minority when it comes to the general population of gamers. There are lots of other great games out there for me to play, I just wish the greater majority and I could experience and enjoy what I had experienced and enjoyed with Thief titles of the past. All well.

I initially wrote a long thing in response but basically it was a longwinded way of saying: "hey man, all I said was I read two reviews that were positive." also "The internet had pre-decided based on second hand accounts of the game that Thief was going to be terrible, and so it became a self-fulfilling prophecy."

just my opinion. I don't really have a dog in this fight, as I didn't play any of the thief games very much.

I bought it on the GMG sale for $34. So even if it is just OK, I think I am ok with it.

Apologies, I shouldn't have quoted you. I wasn't necessarily directing what I said at anyone in particular. The original Thief games were a major part of my early gaming years, and I feel passionate about the IP, which is why I'm disgruntled about the situation this game is in.

Thief is what led me to always play and identify with the sneaky, stabby, resourceful thief/rogue/scoundrel in ALL RPGs from ADnD 2nd ed, which I was introduced to around the same time Metal Age was released, to World of Warcraft. The atmosphere of thief is what really gripped me at the time, and it's all lost from what I've seen here.

This is one of a handful of games I've cancelled my pre-order for.

Only thing the reviews have made me want to do is boot up Thief 2.
