Its hard to describe why I like it so much, since I normally can't stand games like CoD. Titanfall does what it does very well, and is extremely well balanced. It's kind of the ven-diagram sweet spot between Heavy Gear, CoD and...I dunno, Mirror's Edge. I wouldn't say that you have to like twitch shooters to enjoy it at all. Its hard to describe. But it's very good. Calling it "Call of Duty with mechs" is inaccurate and does the game a disservice. also, great rounds tonight! playing with a full group is definitely a blast. Can't wait to do it again.
Pretty much what Sheo said. Watching video is one thing. Ejecting from your mech, which goes nuclear, landing on an enemy Titan and forcing the pilot to get out to kill you, but killing him instead, blowing up his autoTitan, cloaking and jetting off to hide in a building where you find a group of infantry that you proceed to snap the necks of is something that needs to be experienced
There's a lot to be said for the mobility and verticality of the game too. CoD doesn't have it, nor does any other modern shooter I've played. The maps aren't huge, but they feel full, and every inch of them is traversable. The 12 player thing doesn't feel like a defect. If there were larger team sizes the game would feel too chaotic, it'd be too easy to gang up on people and make it less about personal skill. You can take more punishment than in BF or CoD, so it's less about getting the drop on other players, or pulling the trigger faster, and more about being accurate, more maneuverable and outplaying other players you encounter. Even if you aren't particularly good at that interaction, there are still things for you to do. In Attrition maps you can kill NPCs to benefit your team, you can help cap points in Hardpoint Domination, you might be better at fighting in a Titan, so when you get to drop yours you can do that...there are an enormous amount of things to do in a match, and they all flow together seamlessly. I have never played a game that felt this well put together right out of the gate. that said, it IS an FPS, and it won't be for everyone, but I'd be careful not to dismiss it out of hand just because it's made by the people who made Modern Warfare. Keep in mind that when that game came out, it was also revolutionary. Just because subsequent CoD games didn't break any barriers isn't the fault of a team that left Activision after the second game in that series.
I am a whore.. I bought it last night. I was going to try to play, but everyone left before I could finish the 48GB DOWNLOAD AND 35GB OF AUDIO DECOMPRESSION!!11!!ONE
I like Capture the Flag right now, its the most team work based game mode right now. Only downside is that you can carry a flag while inside a titan
This is what I'm afraid of. This may be a personal problem (for me), rather than a failure of the developers. What I am looking forward to, is how the genre of FPS may evolve from this game. At the very least, I imagine TitanFall 2 will be a blast. I'll probably get it to show my support, but imagine I'll get bored within a couple of months.
I really want to pick up Titanfall and join you guys over spring break, but looks like I'm going to busy with projects instead. I never got into the Beta, but I've been watching gameplay on Youtube. How have the campaigns been? That was one of the things that had me most interested in this game; meshing storyline with multiplayer.
campaign is the same as a regular match with some pre game audio and chatter throughout. Its not much really.
From the streams that I have watched, Attrition seems to be the only viable game mode for titan fall.
I like CtF... it requires some teamwork and running away in a flag is fun. I only don't like the fact that you can go inside a titan with the flag
