I finally took the plunge and got this game a couple days ago....it's pretty freaking incredible so far! I'm only at the Undead Parish but I love the aesthetic and the design philosophy of forcing the player to give it everything they have when playing. It also amuses me how even the "good guys" in the game have slightly unsettling personalities, like everyone in the world just might be a little bit psycho. Any other borgers play Dark Souls and/or plan on getting Dark Souls 2? I've heard there's a mod that allows for priority to be given to one's friends list when looking to do multiplayer.
Dude! I have Dark Souls on the PS3... been meaning to get into it but haven't yet. Never played Demon's Souls so I wasn't sure if I should start with the first one or just dive right in.
Yeah I haven't played Demon's Souls but I don't feel as if I'm missing anything in Dark Souls. That said, I do plan on beating the first Dark Souls before getting the second one, and I plan on getting it for PC as well. I may preorder it to make sure I can get a collector's edition if they make one for the PC version, though....the action figure and cloth map that come with the console version look pretty awesome.
Demon's Souls is very nearly exactly the same game as Dark Souls. Same engine, same moves, same almost everything. Mostly tweaked are the fact that its an open world instead of more 'levels' (in a way) and how health works. Also the summoning and world tendencies are different and some stats, but essentially, gameplay, look and feel wise they're very much the same.
I actually think Dark Souls is also a little easier. Demon's Souls plays coy with your health meter. The only time you have full health is after you prove you don't need it by beating a boss that can often kill you in one hit anyway. At least Dark Souls lets you recover your fallen experience after you die, and unless you're an asshat and invade other people's worlds, being human is pointless.
I have hundreds of hours in Dark Souls. Playing through right now on NG+ with aggression and permanent gravelord infection mods enabled as a new SL1 character. It is nearly impossible and loving every minute! If you're playing on PC, have DSFix and DSCFix installed, and want to do some co-op, shoot me your GFWL ID. I have a sunbro I'd like to level up and need some coop boss kills for medallions.
Yea I just fired it up and remember why I took a break. I got cursed at some point and don't have enough souls to buy the cure, and its annoying. I'll get back into again at some point.
Did you consume all your soul items? Happened to me in my first playthrough in The Depths against those Basilisks, I used a couple Souls of a Proud Knight to get the 6K needed for that Purging Stone.
I didn't have enough, only had a handful and don't want to use any of the bigger demon souls. The bad thing with the basilisks was that I didn't notice it accumulating. I got hit a few times, didn't see any adverse affects, then a little later got hit again and boom
Oh, that sucks. If you sprint through New Londo Ruins (Take the Elevator down below Firelink Shrine) You can sprint through the ghosts to Ingward and he will remove your curse for free. While cursed, you can also attack and defend against the ghosts without a Transient Curse/Curse damage weapon! There's also a Firekeeper's Soul right at the start on a ledge to boost your Estus Flask!
It is one heck of a journey. I'm addicted to Dark Souls 2 right now, already beat it and am a good way through NG+ with one character, still enjoying it after 115 hours. In some ways it's not as good as the first, but still very enjoyable to me.
Still havent finished DS2 myself and already started playing Ds1. Idk I think I prefer Ds2 pvp alot more and the SP alot less. It just not as cool I feel as DS1, it lacks soul. Heh that pun tough.
Bought this in the Summer Sale - don't have an SmexBox controller, so I'm dying so hard my deaths are dying twice. Still, I really want to get into this. What is DSFix and DSCFix? EDIT: Nevermind - I've always loved the Nexus, and these fixes are exactly why.
