If the cumulative stat modifiers are less than 1, you retire as a farmer and create a new character :)

I will be around tonight to get characters ready for next week. Delivered the car this morning and Christi is walking.

That said, it is almost 90 degrees in my room and I am dying.

    Weekly update.

We can game Wednesday (new campaign, we need to set up a time with Caesar and Damion for character history).

However, due to Girl Scouts, no gaming on Thursday.

I've been looking at the telekineticist, and from I can tell, it's mostly a ranged version of the rogue, with a massive ability to mess with people on the battlefield. Does anybody have rogue skills? If not, I'm looking at going for that instead of the fire route. We already have several damage outputting characters, so I don't think the loss will hurt.

That, and the fact that if the GM (hint hint) is open to me being a little lenient to how some of it's powers are applied, the TKer opens up some rather fun opportunities for creative role-playing.

why exactly are you carrying his wallet?

it'll have to be Wednesday, as I work until then, if you can get on early that'd be great, I'll try and be up earlier, but if not we'll just have to play it by ear

Demon, I would HIGHLY recommend reading this if you get some time. I'm rolling up a couple of different classes for number 9 to tinker with tonight before our robot meeting, then spending some time seriously considering whether the kineticist is worth playing. I wouldn't mention one person's opinion like this normally, but this is the basic opinion of everybody I've seen that's played the thing: underwhelming damage with easy saving throws for enemies, high amounts of self damage to do anything at higher levels, and abilities that become useless against a large number of high level monsters.

I especially didn't realize that for a lot of the kineticist's AOE spells, they do half damage to start with, and allow the enemy a reflex save to do only a quarter. Plus, they do the full amount of burn damage to the user whether the enemy takes any damage or not. This means that against a creature with good saves, you can routinely hurt yourself more than them with every attack!

I glanced through a lot of the article and I don't think he is giving Kinets a fair shake.

He wants them to be essentially Sorcs. They are not really designed that way. They are more of a ranged rogue than anything else.

Will they have problems hitting targets at high levels. Yes, especially if they spread too thin. Elemental Kinets have an easier job, due to going for ranged touch attacks. Physical Kinets are going to be right on par with rogues (3/4 bab also). They can have a range of 480' with their attacks, doing up to 10d6+10+Con Mod or 10d6+1/2 Con Mod depending on style. Now, granted, they can only fire one of those every other round to avoid hurting themselves (at extreme range). They can also do it all day long, as opposed to limited spells for casters.

These attacks are dex based, so dex is an essential stat. They do not have the enhancement bonus that a rogue would with weapons, so there is a decline in hit capability, which is really only felt when fighting heavily armored creatures. The best way to address this is to have both a physical and an elemental attack. Telekinetics specifically suffer from this, if they stay true Tele,

If you want to be an AOE combat god, this class is not for you. If you want to be a sniper, then it is one of the best. It really depends on what you are looking for.

For a quick breakdown of a few choice enemies for a level 12 Kinet I made (against CR 12 mobs):
Kinet is fire and earth combined. His attacks are:
Key feats: Point blank shot, precise shot
    Earth - Physical - +13 to hit, 6d6+12 damage
Fire - Elemental - +13 to hit, touch, 6d6+3 fire
Magma - Physical - +13 to hit, 12d6+18 (half bludgeoning, half fire), but suffer 2 burn (not countered by gather power)

Adult Copper Dragon (AC 29, SR 23) - Physical needs a 16 to hit, unless within 30 feet. Elemental needs a -3 to hit but an 11 to penetrate SR, kinet doesn't have spell pen.

Adult Green Dragon (AC 27, SR 23) - Physical needs a 14. Elemental needs a -5, 11 to penetrate SR.

    Lich (AC 23, SR none) - Physical needs a 10. Elemental needs a 1.

Purple Worm (AC 26, SR none) - Physical needs a 13, Elemental needs a -9.

Roper (AC 27, SR none), Vulnerability to fire. - Physical 14, Elemental -3 (double damage)

Sea Serpent (AC 25, SR none) - Physical needs a 12, Elemental -5

Summary - Physical is harder to hit, but not insanely. The 5 difference for a rogue to hit (assuming +5 weapons) is in the range of a difference, but rogues cannot keep up with the damage unless they are able to sneak attack, etc. There are also several feats that help. Precise shot and point blank shot should not be ignored. Consider also weapon focus, improved critical, spell penetration, greater spell penetration.

I think they are a great solo target sniper. I have to give the benefit to the elemental style when the above monsters, but it also varies drastically on what the party is fighting. In the case of the 12th level kinet, he would easily hit an AC 23 mob (50/50 chance). This includes most non-tanky heroes.

I saw a theory build that went for an aether kineticist, but focused on a melee weapon and a couple of levels of fighter. It used the tk powers for ranged combat manuevers and defense, and an echanted weapon for attack.

    Called it the jedi.

one could also go kinetics and focus on rather than direct damage, building more of a battlefield controller, picking up and throwing inconvenient enemies around like ragdolls and making like everyone's little more than a droid :p

I built a prototype lvl 20 telekineticist last night, and while it does lag behind a bit in terms of characters that are truly min maxed, given the normal difficulty of the games we've played, it should do pretty well. The updated character sheet is in drop box. The psychic one is another test character where I was trying to figure out if the psychic and mesmerist were different enough from each other for both to be in the same game. You can ignore that one.

Also, I have had a nasty headache since about 10 pm last night. Currently functional, but I don't know for sure if I will make it tonight

Also, Damion, still planning to wake up early enough to character history chat?

And typing more because I have to wait another three seconds. You can ignore this line and take it as a witty comment that would be hilarious if I felt better.
