Slo-mo Star Wars: The Old Republic

(The above poll is for interest gathering reasons, this is a non-binding poll. Sorting out a time will be the next step)

So as discussed some of us feel that since we are waiting for the next two years for an MMO to play we might as well be playing an MMO. To this end I propose SWTOR as that game. Most all of us have at least heard of this game with many of us having played and leveled several characters.

The pros of SWTOR are fairly simple. The game is free to play. The game is fully voice acted, as well as fully animated. The game runs on older machines. The game is fun to play with a lot of Star Wars related lore and fun to be had. THIS GAME HAS IT'S OWN LAUNCHER. If you make an account of the SWTOR website there is a stand alone launcher instead of needing to use Origin.

The cons for SWTOR are likewise fairly simple. The game does have a pay ramp. Some things (certain gear, the ability to farm easily, raids) are restricted to F2P players and can be a pain in the ass. That said the subscription is $15 a month which isn't horrible but understandably annoying. I feel obligated to also point out this game is owned by EA....who we all hate (but as above, no Origin needed)

The plan:

The plan is to work our way though the stories for the different characters and allow people a chance to see the entire story for their class as well as anyone else playing with them. This means we have to limit ourselves in certain ways. We will also be exploring nooks and crannies all over the map picking up lore and datacron points as we come across them.

First off: No space-baring. The object is to come together as a community, not blast though content at warp speed.
Second: The object is to -NOT- power level. If we have four different classes there is no reason we can't all stay near each other story quest wise. That said, of course level if you want. Just know that we will back track to the lowest level and watch every single word of their quests.
Third: While yes, in time it may be possible for us to raid, this is not the goal however. We will be moving slowly though all the stories for the classes we have, as well as general quests here and there. Raiding would be a far off dream.

I am sure I am missing an important point or two here but I feel there is very little reason people could not join us and enjoy this game. feel free to add thoughts and what not.

 

As I have expressed earlier, I am interested in playing again. Something we'll have to also figure out is will we be the goody two shoe side or the badassery that is the dank side?

 

I played this for about a year and the class stories are very suited for this kind of play. As said everything's voice acted and even the quests for 20 Space Bear Asses tend to have amusing dialog options as payoff, especially if you're dark side. I didn't finish all the class stories but my overall impression was that the Empire got more interesting ones on average (I liked the Imperial Agent storyline in particular), and you can play as light or dark side regardless of which faction you are. The alignment choices are almost entirely RP (you get a companion who will react to your choices, but their opinion of you doesn't affect anything besides their performance.)

 

I am very interested in joining and playing. I am looking forward to being the good guys. As an Imperial agent, I will be forcing the rebels and those fond of making organized governments and good hard working people's live hell, to the road. I will be clearing the universe of their oppression and cleaning the streets of the galaxy of crime and skum of the planets. A few people die here and there oh well, twist an arm, a back, line a few pockets with credits... it's all in the persuit of HEY GIVE ME BACK MY STUFF!!!!

Republic trooper reporting in here, Those empire bastards won't know what hit them, be it a few shots from my blasters or a few good rocket rounds, they will run with their tails between their legs in no time. Freedom and choice for all!

Also I have one other in my house who like to heal, so what ever is needed.

 

Personally, we get enough peeps going I'm willing to jump around. It's especially enjoyable when the party has both light & darkside with the rolls. "Alright, let's do the right thing and help save this person..." *darkside player wins, and presses the airlock button* "But..but.. why!?"

I'm more of a fan of the Republic side as I end up feeling less dirty at the end of it, lol... however I'm game for whatever.... more about playin' as a group.

under these circumstances, if we do end up playing empire I recommend running the bounty hunter, the light side/dark side choices can be both entertaining and completely contradictory, when executing the prisoner is the -light side- option it really makes you wonder what the dark side does XD

I use to play when it came out. I just found myself playing other stuff instead. Probably not going to be joining you on this one.

 

If it's anything like the Sorcerer story line it's probably something like extort them, do something unspeakably horrible to them, and then execute them--unless the unspeakably horrible thing you did is worse if they're alive. If you like being despicably cruel this game's gotcha covered.

 

I would compare some of the Dark side options to Saturday morning cartoon levels of villiany. It gets downright petty sometimes.

US servers or EU?
Going F2P is MAJOR pain as it limits inventory, gear etc but still playable.
And we need to plan what crafting/gathering skill to use to max craftable gear/stuff for whole group.
