So I'm looking to buy a game, both Dishonored and XCOM: Enemy Unknown come out tomorrow. Both look really good. Both are VASTLY different games. I enjoyed thief, Deus Ex, etc, and I also love some tactical turn based games, so I'm having a hard time picking. Any advice?

    And don't say get both.

    Dishonered

Same problem here even though here the games are released on the 12th only.. i tend to go for X-Com and by dishonored when it becomes cheaper..

I'm getting Dishonored first, but I want both. Xcom just recently got on my radar and I have been drooling over Dishonored for a while. XCom looks awesome though.

I will get both eventually. I love the idea of Dishonored, looking at some of the early information it looks like they are addressing a lot of complaints people have had about PC games that are also on consoles. You have control over every aspect of the UI, you can turn individual items off, all the Graphics controls are there. I hate to say that is a plus, but so many games leave that stuff out today. It should also have a ton of re playability. I want to see all the options you have and all the different things you can do.

XCOM looks great, and the demo was a lot of fun. It looks to me like they are trying to take the old school XCOM and make it modernized, which is awesome, because we have not seen a game like that in a long time. I do not know enough about the technology progression to speak about it intelligently, but I can imagine at some point you will have the biggest and baddest weapons you can get. It seems that it may be a fairly linear progression in the meta game, where the combat itself could be really varied and different each time, but again, I don't know.

    That's a tough cookie.
I'm getting XCOM myself 'cause SciFi comes before steampunk for me. Will get Dishonored later though.

I'd get XCOM, but I'm not one to talk. I'm going to be waiting a long time for discounts on XCOM and Borderlands 2 before I'm completely sated.

Been looking forward to both games for the past few months and ultimately went for both. I pre-ordered Dishonored two months ago since I couldn't resist it's Thief meets Bioshock allure, and just pre-ordered X-Com Enemy Unknown last night. If you're still on the fence for these two and don't have a particular preference, I'd suggest going for X-Com on the PC first, and within the next few hours preferably, primarily to take advantage of that sweet free Civilization 5 pre-order bonus on Steam. X-Com will probably also have the higher replayability of the two in part to multiplayer.

Personally, I'm a bit more excited for Dishonored, and as much as I'd like to jump into X-Com, I've got to put off playing it for at least two weeks, otherwise I'll never be able to stay concentrated in class.

They'll both be in my library eventually, but XCOM will probably come first. Won't be buying either until a price drop through.

The original XCOM is considered by many one of the best games of all time. Not best PC games, all games. Of all time. Forever.

That said, there's nothing to say that the remake will live up to the hype. All sources thus far seem to indicate that it will, but who knows. Moreover, some people just don't like X-COM or turn based strategy, or at least like it to the point that people like me foam at the mouth over it.

You listed some pretty high quality action/RPG type games that Dishonored is supposed to rival. Just based off your list I'd say you are already leaning that way and should go with your gut... But XCOM is XCOM.

XCOM is probably the safer bet in general, but it seems like Dishonered might be more up your alley and the better buy for you.

Everyone else should buy XCOM... Nowish.

Im grabbing XCOM first and getting Dishonored after a price drop. Least save myself some money in the short term because I have to much to chew through right now on my gaming plate.

Question about XCOM, are the missions random or the exact same every playthrough?

My interest just went up greatly, though I'll probably still wait for a sale.

Ill definetly get dishonored when its on sale but I dont think I like xcom. I watched a gameplay vid and it seemed pretty complex and at the same time boring. Or better said not my type of game. The complexity is fascinating though.

Not as complex as you would think. (I would try the demo assuming that it garners enough interest for you) The thing is if you do not like turn based games it might be a problem but if that does not throw you off the original was one of the best games I ever played growing up. It is pretty simple in functionality but does have depth and will steal your time away like a box of bananas sitting in a room full of monkeys.

Good to hear gihzmo. I only started it up, adjusted settings, and watched the menu screens for 15 minutes last night. Waiting to get a good block of free time before starting the game.
