Everything I've read / heard is that it is far more marketing than it is effective. I personally play on an old 32" HDTV without much issue, so I may not be the best opinion. I would highly recommend seeing the set in action before forking $ though.
The effectiveness of a 120Hz monitor is very dependent on the game engine and graphics card settings. And in many cases even a high end rig will not be able to push things up to those rates without having to drop the quality settings. Having had these talks on a few occasions I have a nice bookmark that talk a little bit about how the eye perceives frames per seconds and how talking about pure FPS actually have little meaning on its own merit. A game engine with good motion blur and faded color schemes will for instance get away with less fps then a crisp full spectrum game. After reading that article turning on those graphics card effects actually makes more sense.
A 120hz monitor will surely only be of use to people with insanely monster triple sli rigs who can get frame rates so high that a normal 60hz monitor causes insane tearing or forces v sync use and cuts fps in half? I'd rather have lower frame rates of around 60fps but have much greater quality and detail. It makes no sense to me to spend performance to get something you cannot really notice. Can anyone here really tell the difference between 60fps and 100fps? I can't, though I can tell the difference between a steady 30fps and an unsteady peak of 60fps. Not only that but there is no way my rig is powerful enough to hit that kind of frame rate without playing games turned right down which rather defeats the point in my book. Personally I don't think much of 3D gaming or multi monitor setups, I play on a 27 inch LCD LG monitor and when it dies I will buy another.
You take that back sirrah! My triple 24" monitors are all used when I play, even though I only play on my center.
