Looks like we are going to rat rod our 1951 Ford F3 tow truck. Channel the body and chop the top, build the flathead with period parts (think twin 2-barrel carbs), paint it flat black and call it "How Low Can You Tow". Pictures upcoming. A few "before" pics
Pretty fucking sweet. I've been seeing a LOT of these on the road lately. Some kind of new trend, I take it?
Honestly, for the past couple of months I've seen quite a few restored trucks. Most of them are 50s Chevys though. Also gotta keep in mind a lot of classic car collectors live down here.
Cab is gutted Cab is off! This will get chopped down about 3 inches. Just a few rust spots to fill in Next step is to get the floorpan channeled and filled in, lower the body mounts and running board mounts, cut the top down and get the glass fitted. Also add a power brake booster and continue the engine build.
Wow, that's some rust! I never understood chopping, but maybe because I'm not a midget and I have a hard enough time dealing with low roofs and an inability to see streetlights without ducking.
Progress! It has been slow going since summer hit and we got busy with stuff that actually pays us. No bodywork done yet, but we are finishing up the engine build! 1951 Flathead truck engine. Totally rebuilt, new main and cam bearings, new pistons, rod and rod bearings, rings, everything. Isky 3/4 grind cam. Adjustable Johnson lifters with ground Ford valves. Offenhauser finned aluminum heads. Offenhauser dual 2-barrel intake with Ford carbs. New mechanical feul pump. Fenton headers. We've got a bracket to fit a newer GM 1-wire alternator which will go on after the water pumps, which we're still waiting on. Distributor base is painted the same New Ford Blue and will also go in after the water pumps. Just a few more parts and the engine will be done, then we'll set it in the frame and start working on getting the cab patched up and channeled.
