Regardless of the state of the app, I got the impression in TS3 last night that the Skjalborg know their crap. My old machine (AMD X2 5600+ w/ 4gig DDR2) is on life support thanks to a donated 8800 GTS 512. I was today offered an XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB for 90$. Seeing as how I have an inevitable computer upgrade in my future, should I grab the 6870 for about half of list price and dump the savings on an i5 or i7 rig, or just pay a little more and put that 90$ towards a new card and new system down the line? For comparison, my new PC target is 600-700$.
So since you're talking components assuming desktop. How much can you re-use? Are you just replacing mobo, processor and graphics card (and maybe PS) or do you need to buy more than that? It'll determine how far your money will go.
I would hold out for down the line. No telling you what kind of deals will be out there when you are ready.
Not to mention with Holiday deals coming up soon (now?) you can probably get into a Mobo/CPU/PSU/GPU upgrade for not a lot of money. The key is mapping out what you want ahead of time so that you know what will work together and be able to hunt for the best deals on each specific part.
I don't know, I got my HD 6850 for $130, and it's running MWO fine on high settings. An HD 6870 for $90 seems like an awesome deal to me.
