There are a few of us who play this. Personally, i like it alot and think that it is a great game. It plays like i expected and delivers where i need it to. The aircraft i have flown the most so far have been the beauty called Gripen E (I'm totaly not biased with the plane being built in my own country and all)
Oh sweet, I've also picked this up. Been flying the F-14 Tomcat for the last couple of missions, but I'm only just getting into the story.
As long as you avoid the most complex modules in DCS then it's fully possible to get started in everything from 10 to 60 minutes. Depends abit on how much you want to adjust the controls. Once you have done it the first time, things will be far quicker and it will only take the same amount of time as it does starting any other game. Now this does not relate to how competent you will actually be when you fly. When i started flying for the first time with a couple of people from the borg. We couldnt even hit a massive stationary balloon and even less a moving airplane. Our first couple duels either ended with someone running out of ammo and having to go back to base or we crashed into each other. Eventually, we could hit each other occasionally and then the duels would sometimes end after the planes engine died due to running out of oil or fuel. We were awful but it was hillarious and provided some great memories. Eventually we got competent at it. For you it would probably be easier as some of us actually know what we are doing now and can help with things.
Yeah... "eventually" being the key word. That's a check I can't cash right now. It's not a matter of ability, it's a matter of "priority". It may not look like it, but I actually love flight sims quite a bit. It's just that my time is limited in what projects I can take on and learning how to use DCS is extremely low on that list. ...which is why Ace Combat is so appealing. To be fair, War Thunder is not a bad alternative, "Stalinwood" bias notwithstanding.
Ace combat is a lot of fun even on arcade mode. Very recommended. Multiplayer options threadbare though. It's team death match and feee for all only. I haven't messed with it much though, so can't comment on group options or anything.
Yeah, I was disappointed with MP too. I thought it had a coop mode for the campaign along with bog standard deathmatch, but I was apparently misinformed.
I have not touched the multiplayer yet and will probably not do it unless i have someone to play with.
