I was just thinking any of you out here fans of the City of Heroes/Villains game? I've been a loyal member for a very long time and still play it. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is now f2p and you can pay for additional content. Basically you create a super hero or villain and beat enemies to a pulp. I'm on the Freedom server my main toon is Emperor Peregrine.
Hey kurt. I have played it since launch. I even beta tested it. Have about 10 level 50s. My account name is under lady inferness. Let me know the the next time you play. I can log in and we can hang.
You guys might want to know... apparently the publisher is shutting down all servers. That link contains a petition to see if you fans can stop it. Message from your friendly neighborhood gamer.
While I don't play anymore, CoH was the first MMO I ever played. Played it up till CoV and for a bit after that before I moved to other games. I'll be sad to see it go.
Loved CoH but am not surprised to see it shutting down. SuperHero MMOs are a niche market and there are way too many of them right now.
Also the game really start to show it's age. Still one of the best games i played and in many ways it was way ahead if its time. Not to mention the community very nice and friendly. People were always willing to help (at least up to the F2P conversion... after that it became a bit colder) and guide new people. I have to admit to one thing though. I never reached max level... But i had enough alts to populate a comic universe of my own =P After all why bother with max level when there was so much fun to be had on the way there.
This makes me very sad. I have played CoH, on and off, since launch. Just being able to customize your toon was one of the best things. So many options for character creation. If the current MMOs had just half of those options. They would rock.
I was sad to hear the game was shutting down as well. I beta'ed it and played a bit past CoV and then on and off since. It was the first game to get me to think a $15/mo sub fee was worth while.
I was a former player as well. i played for like 4 years starting a week or so after it went live, beta tested the CoV beta, and finally just ran out of things to do and moved on when it began to sink in that even new stuff was just the same thing over and over. I tried out Champions Online (also beta tested) and liked it, thought it was a good spiritual successor to CoH, but gamers dont like change and like to cling to old familiar worn out things rather than new exciting things so it didnt catch on like it should have, got to max level and moved on from that too. here is my main toon, Particle Man (energy blaster): and my main villain, The Walkin' Dude (Mastermind): May they rest in peace (altho particle man left the CoH universe and moved on to Champions and other universes, thanks to Portal Corp.)
