The new game by Gearbox (Creators of the Borderlands series.) is called Battleborn. This game is going to be something like a MOBA of sorts with a certain Borderlands fling to it, this has gotten me rather excited because I myself, am a big fan of Borderlands, yet I am not that big on MOBAs. I was wondering what you guys think about this new game? -Garry
i saw a little bit of it some time ago. It looked like a standard MOBA except for it being third person and that it had a slower pace.
I'm pretty picky what games i play these days. I'm already committed to Warthunder, Warframe, Armored Warfare, and MWO. With No Man's Sky around the corner... well... you get the idea.
I gave this a quick try yesterday. I played 1 PVE game and 2 PVP games so these are my first impressions of it. PVE - Called Story Mode in the game, is similar to Borderlands. You follow a path and fight of mobs, a couple boss battles. Reminds of a dungeon in MMOs. It also contains some jokes and humor similar to Borderlands. Overall, it was fun. PVP - It's definelty a FPS MOBA. It's got many things that are normal for a MOBA. Abilities, leveling up and so on. Biggest difference is ofcourse the maps and game modes which have been made to fit an FPS game. I have seen alot of people comparing this game to Overwatch. These games shouldn't be compared at all. Sure, they are both FPS games based around heroes with abilities but that is pretty much where the common ground ends. Overwatch is more similar to TF2 while Battleborn is a MOBA. Battleborn definetly feels like a good game. It just ends up in the shadows because of how popular Overwatch is.
From everything I initially saw, I was pretty skeptical. I've never been too attracted to the FPS/RPG hybrid games, but every once in a blue moon I can be won over (take the Mass Effect games, for example). I wanted to give this a chance, but wasn't able to play. Instead, I've spent several hours watching streams and reviews for this game, and I can't see myself playing it. The biggest issue I take with Battleborn is its pacing. Player characters, even those who are categorized as the "assassin/glass cannon" types are far too resilient for my liking, so it doesn't feel as though players are appropriately punished for misplays. I believe this to be a byproduct of the moba elements like creeps and laneplay, which lead the maps to feel more open. This, in turn demands that the characters are a bit beefier so that they can survive in that environment long enough to make plays. I don't expect all shooters to be milsims, but I do want the weight of consequence to put pressure on your actions. I just don't feel that in this game.
I will add that most of the videos are played on the lowest difficulty setting, when the beta was live you could see, but not access at least 4 more levels of difficulty. I will also say that there were quite a few instances while playing where we either got our butts handed to us rather swiftly if we made a mistake, or was spent running and hiding to try and recover some health before the baddies finished us, that's just from my personal few games played, if you're paying attention and working together things can seem pretty smooth, but things can fall apart pretty quick if you're not careful. The pacing is certainly slower than Warframe, but I'm quite okay with that, and the bosses more than make up for the slower pace of things, I always like to run around and explore anyway. I love the levelling system, it's diverse enough to make even having two players playing the same character they can both play them wildly different, while being simple enough to choose on the fly while being shot at. I am definitely going to be picking this up, hopefully before the preorder bonus ends, just gotta make sure I can afford to XD
Although I saw a brief bit of the PvE, my comments on pacing were directed towards the PvP aspect of the game more than anything.
I haven't tried the PvP so I can't really comment on that aspect, I rather enjoyed the PvE that I played, but I can understand taking a conservative stance on the game, there's a number of good looking games that haven't panned out once released. Worst case you don't get the pre-order bonus, which for the most part is just some early unlocks, not really anything you can't get otherwise that isn't entirely aesthetic in nature.
well, that is depressing >.< I would still like to get it, if anyone is going to be playing it, ever, because fuck all the bullshit, I actually enjoyed playing the game. Overwatch can suck a wet noodle, it's just reskinned TF2 anyway
