Yes its a dumb name, trailer: I like the setting, but that trailer shows absolutely nothing about gameplay, so I'll hold off on opinions until I see something concrete. But I did love the planes from the original 1942, so if they make the flight a liiiittle bit like real flight (at least energy, altitude, etc), then I'd be happy.
EA went back in time like everyone wanted at least, while activision went even further into the futurish war fighter style which lots of complaints were made the last time.
What did I learn from this trailer? Battlefield would make a great dumb-fun summer action blockbuster.
That could actually happen you know. They made a Battleship movie after all. "Coming this Summer: Battlefield! Starring Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, Kristen Stewart, and Daniel Craig, with guest star Lil Wayne. Directed by Michael Bay. Lens flare by JJ Abrams." I hate you
If JJ doesn't do the Lens Flare the deal's off as far as I'm concerned. BLIND ME YOU GLORIOUS BASTARD!!!
It's stated that it will be 64 players so i imagine it will play like Battlefield 4 but you will probably also find some stuff that is similar to Battlefront.
This is what I am afraid of, every iteration of the "new" series of Battlefield has been further away from 1942/2. I can understand trying to appeal to the wider market but the way that DICE's team was crapping all over Activision (disclaimer I dislike COD immensely so bias abounds) actually put a sour taste in my mouth. Basically the entire press conference was a thinly veiled attack on the COD series while claiming that they would provide a game, but didn't actually show any game play just spiced up artwork (Something they had earlier in the week and beforehand attacked activision for). It soured me on BF1, and as before with most of the Battlefield games I'll be waiting til they actually release the game with full reviews before I touch it, until then I have Verdun.
POLL ADDED What the fuck is this? ... EA... fuck you and your misleading game titles and fuck you for mostly relying on FMVs to market your games. Here's a thought... why not put some of that MASSIVE marketing budget towards making your games not complete shit on release? Gun to my head... will not fucking buy.
how is it misleading? Battlefield with World War 1 as the theme. which is why it is called Battlefield 1.
Part of me is really excited for the chance to see WW1 combat with a large player base, the other part of me is sad because I know they will have to water it down to keep the kids from rage quitting. Also part of me is glad that I'm not going to be in the country to get to play it so I don't have to worry about buying it for full price at release!!!! joys of not getting to play multi player games due to bad internet for the next few years
What Dihm said. Battlefield "1" was the first one that made all of us fall in love with the franchise and that was set in 1942. What they are doing here is a common marketing ploy to trick people into falling for nostalgic impulses. They did the same shit with Syndicate and Sim City... and both were complete embarrassments. To be fair, all of the huge publishers are guilty of this tactic (especially Activision and UbiSoft), but I don't see that as any more reason to forgive them for it. It's disingenuous. ... Then again, I'm listening to the words in my head and realize nothing will change and none of this really matters.
Until i see gameplay, BF1 is just a reskinned battlefront. which is something i dont find that interesting. I think they switched it to Battlefield 1 is because it almost sounds like Battlefield won as a shot at CoD, because of as of right now they have won the next FPS battle between BF and CoD. mainly because everyone wanted them to go back to the basics of WW2 and WW1. CoD did not with its CoD infinity warfare and received lots of flak though very shiny and nice its not what the people wanted, which BF showed its next game BF1 a week later? and is currently in the spot light right now. edits for grammar
huh.. i think you mean.. "You think you want that, but, eh, you dont want that. you think you do, but you dont. " and to get a little more understanding of how much flak CoD infinity warfare is getting with lots more people liking the new battlefield 1 idea CoD infinity warfare is about 15.2 million views so far, 280k likes, 1,430,000 dislikes Battlefield 1 is about 21.5 million views. 1,133,000 likes, 20k dislikes The CoD trailer has also been out for a week longer.
Luckily these two awful examples gave us their true spiritual successors, if not in name: Satellite Reign and Cities Skylines - both considered to be head and shoulders above their reboots. We can only hope with every IP the big houses screw up with, the more indies will actually go ahead and build the games we wanted in the first place.
I don't think you will miss anything with this. It will just be a battlefield game that looks like WW1. Verdun is more interesting to me
