Combat Mission is a series of games that have been releasing since the year 2000. It's currently developed by a small studio called Battlefront. It's no surprise if you haven't heard about it. It's a niche game within what is abit of a niche genre. There is no marketing for it and very little coverage on YouTube. You have to actively look for it in order to find it. These games are not for everyone but for those of us who like this, there is nothing better.

What kind of game is it though?
The short description would be a very realistic rts game. The developers themselves describe it as:

There are currently 6 games worth mentioning in the Combat Mission (CM) series. All of them run on the same game engine and are up to date. The only real difference is in the setting and the equipment used. There are 2 modern and 4 WW2 games. These are.

    CM Battle for Normandy (CMBN)
    CM Fortress Italy (CMFI)
    CM Red Thunder (CMRT)
    CM Final Blitzkrieg (CMFB)

    CM Black Sea (CMBS)
    CM Shock Force 2 (CMSF2)

CMBN cover D-day to September 1944. Allowing you to command Americans and German forces. With additional DLC you can also command Commonwealth forces and do Operation Market Garden.

CMFI covers the Invasion of Sicily and the American, German and Italian forces that fought there.
The "Gustav Line" adds the commonwealth forces for the invasion of Sicily and as well the fighting of Anzio and Monte Cassino and the fall of Rome. Next DLC to be released in August will cover from Rome and the push to the alps. Adding several new forces aswell

CMRT covers from the start of Operation Bagration in the summer of 1944. Future dlc will extend it all the way to the fall of Berlin.

CMFB is focused on the American sectors during the Battle of the Bulge.

CMBS covers a fictional scenario of the American army intervening in Ukraine and starting a full on war with Russia.

CMSF2 have abit of an interesting story. CMSF2 is basically just an upgrade of the original CMSF. It depicts a fictional scenario where USA and its NATO allies invade Syria. It actually have nothing to do with the Syrian Civil War. The original CMSF game was released in 2007 while the Syrian civil war started in 2011.

I have currently only played CMSF2 but I really like it and will look at picking up more of them. Likely one of the WW2. They are abit easier in the sense that the weapons aren't quite as lethal.

Ask if you want to know more about my thoughts and I might do an after action report if I find the inspiration for it.
