Don't be misled by the name, this is a standalone singleplayer-only game. I hate how they've split the content like this, but the content here seems to give the better singleplayer experience of the two. For a brief period of time, it will be on sale for a much more reasonable price. If you been watching for this, now would be the time to snap it up.

Here's a good video that explains more about it:

The part that attracts me is the "Risk" type map progression and veteran units can carry over to the next mission. Honestly, this should have been a feature from the beginning.

If this interests you, grab it here while its still 25% off. It is a recent release so I don't expect it to be offered again for this price anytime soon.

Ever played DoW Soulstorm? They had a great Risk style map where you could buy 'garrison' buildings and troops as well as special units for your retinue.

Nice to see a bit of that seeping to the WW2 game.

Didn't get to Soulstorm. I did play Dark Crusade though... and enjoyed that quite a bit. Is Soulstorm better?

It seems like such a logical thing to do in singleplayer RTS games. A shame you don't see it more often.

I really want to like these games but they're just too frantic and fast paced for me. If the entirety of the gameplay was slowed about 33% I think it'd be one of my favorite games ever; that's why I really liked a lot of the DoWII single player.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, but if CoH is fast paced, other RTS' like Starcraft and Command & Conquer are downright ludicrous speed. If you like DoW, then I strongly recommend trying the Americans in CoH2; they don't require any base building or management so you can focus entirely on troop movement and placement. Also, coop is still quite fun if you don't like the stress of going against other players. Position of units is just as important in CoH as it is in DoW. This should come as no surprise since both were originally developed by the same company.

I actually managed to get pretty decent at SC2 (Platinum League 1v1 for season 1 and 2), but boy was it tough, stressful, and took tons of effort. I did not know CoH had a co-op mode, though! Was that a recent addition? On that note alone I'd give it a shot for the $10 it was up on Steam for--hope it shows up on the last day last chance sale again.

I stopped playing RTS online as soon as it started to 'develop' beyond guys just building units and tossing them at each other. When it came to measuring APM and having 'set rules' for 'allowed' build orders and timings etc.. I was so disgusted that I didn't want to hear of it.

Nowadays I'm above all a single player.

same here, but bot stomping with friends is also pretty fun once you can gauge what your team can handle. Personally, I can beat a Standard AI, but can't beat a Hard one so sometimes I will fight two Easy AI or one Standard and one Easy (depends on the map).

The part that annoys me the most is the stupid random unlock system they have for the bullitin upgrades. if it was random without the possibility of getting duplicates, at least that would be reasonable, but how it stands now... you might as well not even try to unlock everything.

    Yea, there's that.

As for all the unlockables, I never liked the trend of forcibly inserting unlockables and achievements into every damn game out there. It's like anal, some may like it but definitely not 'solve it all'.

Dow Soul-Storm is great, especally when you add in amazing creations such as the titanium mod for it. as for the ardennes assault, I enjoy it but the one thing, a guily regret, is I cant just throw armies or have a good prolong battle since you only have a certain amount of troops.
