Recently I decided to test the effectiveness of the various mines in Arma 3. Here is what I found, categorized by mine:

A note: All mines can be triggered by firearms, but it can be tricky with some. Bounders are the easiest, but the AT and standard APERS are finicky. You'll want a powerful round and, if possible, as direct of an angle as you can safely manage.

    APERS mine standard
Vs infantry: Triggered by proximity, but you basically have to be right on top of them. Lethal to enemies within a couple of meters, but it is fairly contained all things considered. If it hits you, it'll likely kill you.
Vs Quad: Triggers the mine, but, if moving fast enough, it will be able to outrun the blast. If moving slowly, it will destroy the vehicle and kill the driver.
Vs Hunter: Triggers the mine, but, if moving fast enough, it can outrun the blast. If it does not, it will have its tires blown out.
Vs HEMTT: No injury to passengers, but it blows out the tires.
Vs Marshall: No injury to passengers, but it blows out the tires.
    Vs tracked vehicles: No effect.

    APERS mine bounding
Vs infantry: Trigger mines by proximity, usually if you come within a couple of meters. Inflicts heavy/lethal damage to enemies within roughly 10m. It appears it can cause light damage to enemies up to around 20m away. In short, they're nasty as hell.
Vs Quad: The quad triggers the mine, and it struggles to get outside of the mine's effective range before detonation. You may make it, but it is likely you'll be killed or heavily wounded with a single mine. If it's in a field you won't make it.
Vs Hunter: It can brave the mines without hull damage, but the tires tend to be blown out pretty quickly. A single mine may disable the vehicle, and, in a field, it would leave you stranded.
Vs HEMTT: Same thing as the Hunter. It won't wreck the engine or kill those in the front (I am not sure about passengers in back, but I wager it'd be lethal), but it will disable it by blowing out the tires.
Vs Marshall: Same thing as the Hunter. It won't wreck the vehicle, or injure passengers, but it will disable it by blowing out the tires.
Vs tracked vehicles: No effect even if they drive through a field.

    Antitank mines:
Vs infantry: Cannot detonate unless they fire directly upon the mine with a firearm.
Vs Quad: Will not detonate mine, even if sitting directly on it.
Vs Hunter: Triggers the mine, but it can be fast enough that it can outrun the explosions if it is going above 50-60
    Vs HEMTT: disabled/destroyed
    Vs Marshall: disabled/destroyed
    Vs tracked vehicles: disabled/destroyed

    APERS tripmine:
    Finicky pieces of shit

There were many, yes. My finale involved covering a literal sq km with bounding mines (which, when laid as a field, have a tendency to chain-react) and firing a 155 shell into the heart of it while I watched from a mountain.

    It was glorious :secretlaugh:

Well done Don. Thanks for this. I'll save this post for later, I'm sure it'll come in handy as a review for when I start playing me some ArmA.
