I picked this up kind of a whim with some store credit, and hot damn is it addictive. I think this would be a good fit for some of us. It is a full price game, but I can easily see myself getting my money's worth solo. EDF 5 is a looter shooter for 4 players (or single) with massive waves of enemies filling the screen. It has a sort of a crappy b-movie vibe I find hilarious, 4 classes, an insane number of improving weapons (hundreds), plus vehicles, deployables, etc. There are 110 story missions that so far are taking 10 - 30 minutes to complete, and with the variety of load-outs, I can see this being incredibly re-playable. You fight giant ants, spiders, UFOs, Aliens, and other weirdness. Play Styles (Classes) Ranger: Basic Infantry. Uses assault rifles, shotguns, grenades, rockets, and vehicles. Surprisingly powerful. This isn't one of those games where the "Basic" class is a gimp class. You can put some serious ordinance down. Wing Diver: Has a jet pack and has to balance flying and shooting energy. The jump pack supplies power to your weapons and running out leaves you vulnerable while you recharge. Highest single target DPS. Lasers, plasma canons, etc. Air Raider. My favorite. Specializes in calling support and deployables. They do not fuck around with area of effect here. You can level an entire city block in seconds with airstrikes and artillery barrages. Long cool downs, but insane damage potential. Can also call in a mech suit after a certain number of kills for even more dakka. Fencer: The power armor from Edge of Tomorrow. Literally that. It even looks the same. Carries 100mm autocannons, mirvs, and other vehicle based weapons. You can also carry a shield, but you're slow as molasses. Plus, you fight Godzilla.
Honestly, I'm surprised no one mentioned this game before. I've watched some Let's Plays with this and it looks like a ton of fun. I think it definitely scratches that itch for fans of shooters, mecha, and/or the kaiju genre.
It is fun. I'd to look if it is the exact one I have. The messages on the radio are fun too. I know I have an EDF but not sure if it is 5.
I played EDF 4.1 alot and I did mention it in the past but there was no interest then. I have ofcourse picked up EDF 5
Will pick up 5 since it's the new hotness. Odd that it's 20% off right now even though its a new release. Sorry to hear that Moro. Hopefully the issue will get resolved soon.
We found out that your mission progress in single and multiplayer is tracked separately. I would stick to solo multiplayer games if you can. Also, teams share pickups, so don't worry about people stealing drops. May actually be easier to farm stuff with pugs to help pick them up.
Moro told me that the crash on start issue has been identified as some missing files. It will probably be fixed with a coming patch. Ask him for details if you are curious.
I've seen several companies do day 1 or week 1 discounts to encourage early sales. It especially helps in games that focus on multiplayer to get your player count up quickly.
People seem to love this game for all its explosive wacky glory. You basically play a soldier caught in a kaiju movie. Recommend picking up 5 while it is on sale.
I'd say not enough is known about it yet, thus why make a new thread. But Earth Defense Force 6 is supposed to release in 2021. And takes place 3 years later so kinda post-apocalyptic. I guess some people are bitching about the graphics looking like they are a game from a decade ago. But I don't think EDF has ever been about the graphics. And only the ranger has been shown so far. https://www.d3p.co.jp/edf6/ not much on the website. And it is in japanese. So I'm guessing a mid-late release in japan and a worldwide release (if it does the same as all the other titles, most took up to a year between releases) in 2022.
