yeah... so much of this makes no sense. and making a completely new franchise an exclusive is always a terrible idea. what incentive is there for me to buy the Oculus when the Vive lets you actually walk around? the game itself looks cool, but i don't see how this could possibly convince me to buy an Oculus. If a dev wants to make a killing with a VR game, someone should make a "animal mauling simulator" where you get a nice 1st person perspective of getting hunted and attacked by a bear, tiger, shark, etc. That would be absolutely terrifying. Hell, it could even be used to cure people's phobias... or give them heartattacks for trying... for science!
Id rather wait and see what the big three consoles are going to show at E3 then ever throwing money at a oculus. PS4 neo which is supposed to be 3 times more power then a normal PS4 comes out sometime November to December. While nintendos NX and microsofts xboxone scorpio comes out 1 to 2 Q 2017 with the new xbone being about 30% more power then the new PS4 Neo.
I was right there with you magnus, but then I'm picking up an Oculus CV1 tomorrow over lunch. After reading about their differences and watching what seemed like every youtube video I could find, I was all set to buy a vive until I started researching playing DCS with it. The guys there ran into the same issue that the elite dangerous players found, the Vive simply doesn't display text and clearly as the Rift does. While you can get quite a bit of improvement out of the vive in increasing the size of the sweet spot for clarity through removing the face pads and moving it closer to your face if you don't have glasses coming close to the size of the rift's sweet spot. It doesn't improve the clarity of text to the point that it matches the rift. Bottom line if you need to read what the screen is displaying in you space ship or your gauges in dcs, the rift has the edge. All that said I still feel like the Vive is a better product when it comes to basically everything else vr related, but it doesn't beat the rift for text and that in the end was more important to me.
good to know. i'm not really in a rush to jump on the VR, but I will definitely look into this before buying one. Maybe issues will be ironed out by then.
There is a good post on redit from a guy with both systems that details the differences quite well. While not everyone can afford both headsets, his recommended uses line up with about everything that I have seen. The other big thing I've seen so far is the way each company deals with jittering frames. The preemptive approach by oculus seems to be better supported and provides a better experience in more demanding games while htc using a reactionary method allows for lower performance graphics cards to function better in theory but in practice has frame jitter in demanding situations until it can react to the fps drop. With running my dual gpu sli gtx760 card I realize that it will be at the bottom end of gpu performance so the rift's method of dealing with fps is better until I can get a msi aero 1080 to watercool and really push the settings up.
