i was all totally stoked to get into ED and fly some spaceships but then Arma3 Exile was like, "hey. pssst. hey man. check this wild shit out." screens and vids frontier is putting out of the horizons stuff is looking pretty cool though
Today as i was heading back towards civilized space.. i hit a swath of space that was populated almost exclusively with Brown Dwarf stars( cant scoop fuel from a Brown Dwarf), i ended up diverting my route 6 times to allow myself a chance to fuel.. that patch of space ended up being about 1200 light years wide. It was extremely nerve wracking to watch my fuel levels dip well below my comfort level. The last time i was forced to divert my course, the last star i dropped out at ( a fuelable star) the computer calmly informed me "Main fuel tank depleted", thats a message i NEVER want to hear again. As i broke through that deadspace area, the second system i dropped into yielded another Earth like world , i guess that was my Prize for crossing that vast desert.
Yes, that ship is named the "ASP" it is a ship from the Lakon ship line. its primary purpose is Exploration and Multi-role. It makes a decent medium sized (constellation length, but wider and taller) fighter, hauler while maintaining a svelte weight of 280 tons (before any additional equipment of course) Its main claim to fame however is its ability to mount jump engines that are larger (in relation to its size) allowing it the largest jump range of any other current ship (before any additional equipment is added , Of course) The one pictured above however is outfitted as a combat explorer and as such has a lower jump range due to additional weight.. it does still maintain a high jump range of 28.3 lightyears with a full fuel tank and is capable of 9 max range jumps without refueling ,for a total range of over 255 light years before running out of fuel. all the while being able deal with light and medium class threats as long as it's not swarmed. It is a decent ship that can be had for a not too terrible price, yet still able to upgrade a considerable amount as long as you have the credits. Base ship cost is 6.6 million credits , ship pictured is valued at a tad bit over 60 million credits.
Today i finally made it back from the deep dark Black... Two friends met me as i jumped into civilized space to escort me to a repair facility ( to insure no one attempted to interdict my battered and beaten ship).. they then escorted my to a Federal alliance system so i could sell my exploration data. First pic is before i started selling. Second pic is after all was sold. A total of 104 million credits worth of data, and i ranked up to Pioneer level in exploration (thats the level just before Elite rank)... no where what i could have earned had i just stayed and did a grind (combat or Trade) but exploration was what i wanted to do.. it feels good to have made it back in one piece (for awhile there it was debatable as to whether i would make it back or not) I and 15-20 other players are now waiting for Frontier to implement the second round of player backed factions... we petitioned for one and were approved for the faction and the location we asked for. once it is implemented we will then attempt to take over a star system and set ourselves up as the ruling government. (non faction players can attempt to destabilize us and are allowed to attempt setting up another faction in our place if they succeed) if we succeed in setting our faction up as the ruling faction of the system, we can then attempt to spread into neighboring systems.

Having Owned a Vulture in the past (as well as a Python, and anaconda and virtually every non empire specific ship) i can say that was a nice example of fighting and flight.. although he does make liberal use of SCB(a controversial piece of equipment, and one that may see another balance pass eventually) he did a fine job. My current Combat ship is a Federal Gunship.. and where the Vulture and other combat ship have an element of Grace and subtle nuances to their flight.. the Gunship is brute strength and raw firepower.. kinda like dancing with the local female bodybuilder, you need to have a firm hand or she will not move as you need her too.

Ironically last night, I got tackled by a mil-fit NPC Anaconda last night. Federal Agent. Mean mother fuckers. He dropped in at around 1.5km and turned my cutter into so much space scrap despite running a 6a Shield with 2 boosts and chaff. Lost my ship, lost my cargo, and was 99 890 creds short of the rebuy of a gutted cutter. So now I'm in a little hauler trying to get the capital for the largest engine to start rare-trading again. I don't know why, but this whole experience is actually really fun.
Until the 30th or the 1st, can't remember. Also, put in my first hour doing a few short milk runs. I've yet to learn the UI, but the game's very impressive. Something to be said for the Master of Procedural Generation rendering an entire Galaxy in 1:1 scale.
It's a fine game alright! Wish I had the hours to enjoy it. It takes some time just to fly from place to place and you don't want to be running out of time in the middle of a pitched dogfight.
