Looks like some cheesy fun. I'm wondering when the trailer people will stop using nearly the same damned music for every trailer for the past year or more, though.
They've run out of ideas, lets admit it. All the good stuff's been covered already. /inbeforebattletechmovietrilogy
When you really get down to it, every possible movie subject had been covered by the mid-40s or so. Everything since then has been a remake in one form or another.
Not... always. There's a lot of short films, and indie directed ones that are new in some way. Sure, the stories might be similar, but then we've told pretty much the same stories way back when we only had campfires for entertainment. Sundance always has something interesting.
There are some bigger movies that do new things with old ideas... While there's a lot of trash, I tend to get tired of people saying that film is dead. Hollywood has always, ALWAYS turned out 90% crap to 10% quality. We just don't remember any of the crap for very long. For every Citizen Kane, Casablanca, and The Dictator there are a jillion just awful tripe movies that got made in that era of film as well. EDIT: not to say that's the message you were trying to deliver Trev.
I didn't really like District 9, so I'm probably not gonna bother with this one :\ It also drew a lot form the book Neuromance, and lots of it's design from Ghost in the Shell.
WHHHAAATTTTT??? District 9 was awesome! Well, in my opinion at any rate, which on the internet means I'm right, doesn't it?
X2 for District 9 being a good movie. It had an interesting twist on the whole alien contact thing. Not sure that Elysium will be as good tho. Especially not if they use the same jiggly camera style as District 9. That was my least favorite part of that movie. Edit: I just remembered (it's been awhile since I saw the movie). District 9 had a mech in it; how could you NOT like it?!?
And what an awesome mech... well, power armor it was. Also, shame on you if you didn't like D9. That was a great movie.
The plot of this movie reminds me of battle angel alita which I believe James Cameron has the actual movie adaption rights to. So with that being said, expect a loosely based rip off of a classic manga with over the top action to keep the random populace satisfied with watching it.
I'm all for more sci-fi movies, will watch this Though I'm staill waiting for a new sci-fi that is as good as blade runner. It's been over 30 years, it's bloody well time for a new classic!
