I am finally going back to work!!!!

I have not really shared this with anyone here but I have been out of work for the last 7 months. I work in Iraq and need a security clearance for my job. One day in late June I had to get my access badge renewed and they couldn't find my clearance in their system. They thought it was just an error and would sort it out in a day or two.

It turns out that because of a screw up at my company's HQ I no longer had a clearance. The next day I was off the compound and a few days later on a plane out of the country. The government looked into this error and the result has forced about 20 other people to leave because their clearances disappeared overnight as well. The person responsible was a VP at my company that was really really lazy and didn't do his job and was fired, fined, and banned from government work.

So I have been waiting for the government to reinvestigate my security clearance since then. I talked with the investigator a few days after I left and he said it should only be a couple of months at most and I would be back to work. But because I was not actively working they delayed my investigation and pushed it off to different people. They did not start working on it until mid September.

Since early December I have been in almost daily contact with the investigator asking what is taking so long, but she couldn't tell me because it was an ongoing investigation. After weeks of badgering her she finally told me right before Christmas that she could not verify the company that I was working for while contracted to the government. This was the only item that was holding up my investigation for about 2 months.

WTF, I went off on her and her boss over the phone and gave her a phone number for my company, because she evidently doesn't know how to read all the contact info that I already gave her or use google.

So, after 7 months, almost to the day from when I was forced to leave, I will be returning to work. The first couple months were a nice vacation but after that, with no money coming in, things got tough. I have been working 3 part time jobs and doing everything possible to make ends meet and still lost my new truck and almost lost my house. I even had to sell some of my guns :crying:

So my company is moving me to a different government contract, which is fine because I will be in a leadership role and making more money, but I will have to do a fitness test for this one. I have not really worked out since I was injured while on active duty back in 2011....which led to my medical discharge. I'm not in bad shape but definitely not looking forward to this.

Best of luck to you! Hope it all works out.

And really glad the full moon on Friday the 13th didn't take years to take place as it sometimes can.
