So I work in a secure place, but i read nothing in any paperwork that says anything about not going in on Saturdays. I left a paper that had some things on them to help me look up more things about the job to help do my job better. The training is horid. I just need a little more info. No paper work says you're not allowed in on saturday and we have to badge in and out through 2 different doors. Why is it my fault security left the key pad unlocked. He even said the only way you could get in was becasue we left it open. What were you going to do if we weren't here. I said, Turn around and go home, cause I wasn't allowed in. But both of the doors opened, so I figured it was ok. Im going to go in when they "call me in" with all the training paper work printed out showing them what is lacking. And point out that it doesn't say anywhere we're not allowed in. Mostly the main question is why did they leave the door unlocked? Why aren't the badges set to only work on some days? Why is it my fault they didn't do their job?
sounds to me like their security is pretty garbage, not just because of the lapse with the door keypad, but just in general. Security should've been the first to tell you when you can and cannot enter the building, and what security precautions you need to be aware of in case you should happen to come across something out of the ordinary, like a keypad not being secured off hours. It's not your fault, but it makes them look like fools because their lack of proper communication combined with someone's failure to follow protocol generated a security breach (who's probably thinking to himself, how is it my fault, nobody bothered to mention that we were supposed to lock the keypads at the end of the night!).
Should have something along the lines of the doors being unsecured and you will be telling hire ups that you suspect them of letting in unauthorized personnel because they are intentionally leaving the doors unlocked. in all seriousness they are most likely lazy POS that leave it unlocked because they have to do a walking check around the building every so often and its to much of a hassle for it to be locked like its supposed to.
You're in the right here, but that doesn't mean that going into their office and pointing out all the shit they're doing wrong is going to be your best move. That really depends on how well you know these people. Some people, and especially a lot of lazy people who've been doing this a certain way for a long time, don't enjoy people coming in and pointing out things they don't do well. I can't really tell you what the best move is, but I'd probably lay off the lecturing unless you're actually in semi-serious trouble. Last resort nuclear option is to go above their heads or threaten lawsuits for wrongful termination from someone else's fuckup.
Are you getting "called in" by security or by your management? Because if it's by the security department I'd make sure your manager/supervisor was aware of what happened.
When i went into work today I walked right to my representative, and told them what happened. They were surprised didn't hear anything from security about it, and even went so far as to say she'll make sure to mention WHO left the door open if somebody does say something. Being proactive is a good thing some times.
