    Epic Store won't even run on my computer because it pisses BitDefender off. I need to add like 10 files to my exemption list on BitDefender in order for it to not be like "NOPE! FUCK THAT THING!" Wasn't worth the hassle so uninstalled Epic Store, and just to be sure restored my computer to a backup I had saved before I installed it.

    BitDefender flagged it all as SpyWare. So, while they're not going so far as to actually trying to steal anything important from you like Bank Accounts or money (probably), they're definitely watching everything you do on your computer. So, for anyone that has the Epic Store installed, they have all your information for any account you access with your computer. I doubt they'll be stupid enough to try and actually use or sell any of the information they're mining. But the fact that they're mining it at all is still disturbing.

    I don't recall it being credit card info but I think there was a kerfuffle because it hooked into Steam without asking so you could invite your friends to use the Epic store (if you wanted to (which you probably didn't. (I logged into their shop for the first time ever this afternoon and had 28 friend requests...)))

    I had wireshark on my old computer for shits and giggles to track packets to see who and what was actually doing stuff. It’s the reason I won’t use the origin launcher. Im sure people are running packet trackers so they know what’s up.

    I missed this from earlier, but, per Russ, the Epic deal was worked out in APRIL, when they were finishing up the first preorders. Around 4:10 in the video.

    Unfortunate, was really hoping for MW5 to be everything MWO wasn't. I already had very little faith in Russ and PGI, but was hedging my hopes that most of the problems stemmed from IGP and that things would start to look up with them no longer in the picture. Looks like I'll be skipping MW5 unless it goes on a really good sale on Steam in the far future.

    I still have hope for MW5, I don’t trust Epic, and past experience has shown to not trust what Russ says only what is actually delivered. They haven’t totally ruined MWO, it isn’t as fun as closed beta the last time I checked and the community warfare aspect is beaten out by a mod like Rougetech for Battletech, but they have been trying and working at it. I hope that the succeed with WM5, it is the game that I want to actually play unlike the arena based MWO concept. But I’m more than happy to hold off until it is released on steam or Epic is less evil, and save some money to top it off.

    Here's the thing: as much as this news sucks, all signs still point to this being the best version of Mechwarrior we always wanted.

    DISCLAIMER: ARS TECHNICA is a video series that showcases the technical difficulties of development and programming, so it talks a lot about bugs they had to tackle. But it also showcases some of the technical achievements they've gained which bring a lot we didn't have before to the Mechwarrior franchise. I like it though, becasue it is way more revealing than your average flashy gameplay trailer.


    I don't begrudge anyone for refunding their pre-order, but let's keep things in perspective:

    The issue here is that PGI is backing out on promises of a day-1 Steam release. This ONLY affects people that were pre-ordering. If a person had not planned to buy it until release... and now they have to wait another year?... Is that really a big deal? Games get delayed all the time. We just have to wait a bit longer. I'm sure we can all think of a few games where we've had to wait a little longer. The good news is that we will still get a Steam release. I'm not saying what PGI did was acceptable. I'm disappointed as fuck. But in the long run, if the game is good, I don't see how that will prevent us from enjoying the game a year later.

    If people don't like the Epic deal, the choice is easy: don't buy it on Epic.

    I am not saying I would never play MW5, I am saying no fucking way in hell on Epic. Besides, after a year, the bugs should be fixed and most likely can get it for less money on Steam sale. However, the fact that Russ knew they were going to Epic, and still sold it while advertising Steam keys IS shady as fuck, completely dishonest, and PGI deserves to be called out for it. Also, look at the timing for refunds v. when they were going to announce it. It would have left only a few days for people to refund the pre-order. The closer I look at it, the more I am thinking a refund.
    Who knows, the game may even flop because of Epic and never even make it to another store/platform.

    The deal was signed in April to go epic exclusive. Wow. Take the fans mony while smiling and promising a release on worthwhile platforms. All the while knowing you were going to turn around and do this.

    Where is the outrage from NGNG?

    I stand by what I said before. They don't make this right by the cutoff date I'm getting my refund. If the devs really want to treat the players like this I'm probably done with MWO. I have played since the fist closed access for MWO and played weekly since then. I have made fantastic friends in doing so.

    I just dont think I can invest any more time let alone money supporting a company who thinks so little of the people who supported them.

    The problem with all this kerfuffle is that it detracts from the actual game itself. As Magnus points out, there is promise there, but that isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about the shady business shit that has nothing to do with how the game plays.

    I am not up on the last couple of years of NGNG but from my last interactions with them there WON'T be outrage because they White Knight the shit out of PGI and get some funding from them. Maybe they have separated their interests and gotten more objective. That's why I had a falling out with Sean or whatever his name is.
