PGI has successfully negotiated a renewal of the MW license from Microsoft this summer. Long story short, we are getting new content for both MWO and MW5! In Russ' words: "All options are back on the table". MWO details: PGI acknowledges the shortcomings of MWO and they want to fix some of the lingering issues they didn't have time to before. PGI wants to move away from catering to mainstream F2P business models; wants to focus on creating an experience that the fans want. Rework matchmaking and faction play to be more fun. Less focus on cranking out new mechs, more focus on improving all game mechanics. PGI believes MWO can co-exist with MW5 by making each focus on either PvP or PvE respectively. MW5 details: STEAM RELEASE CONFIRMED! RELEASE POSSIBLE BEFORE 2021! Free content update as well as premium DLC will coincide with Steam release! Additional content/DLC expected in the distant future now that the license is secured for the next 5 years. More mod support. Improved Co-Op campaign management. Great podcast interview:
Additional pertinent info regarding MWO: And a short MW5 update: Steam release date confirmed!: December 10th "Heroes of the Inner Sphere" DLC confirmed to launch with Steam release DLC in co-op is cross-compatible with non-DLC owners, only host needs it for everyone to benefit.
Teaser Trailer from June: New mechs, obviously, but also new biomes, environmental effects, weapons, and infantry!
