So many of you know I've had some pretty bad mid-game shutdown problems in the past few months, and I have no idea what's causing them...

...I still don't know exactly, but I have a feeling that my fans are no increasing RPMs as the temp increases on the comp. I've looked through SpeedFan and tried to adjust that way but it doesn't seem like I have the right motherboard and quite frankly I'm at my literal wits end (like, to the point of tears even). I'm about as comp illiterate as you can get so all of this just pisses me off to no end.

Honestly, if I had someone I trusted to look at it nearby I'd take it right now, but I ain't paying Staples 150 bucks just to look at the damn thing and tell me what I already know. Idk, maybe I just need to rant a little but at this rate I won't be playing MWO, Civ5, SC or any taxing game in the near future.

Check your power supply? If its failing the voltage maybe unstable and cutting out and causing system shut downs. If its that and it keeps going it can damage your other parts.

55 degrees seems fine to me though, its more about the value under load that matters.

Download something that can monitor the heat on your CPU and GPU potentially and see if it spikes during gameplay. It may or may not be heat related.

my wife had a similar issue and it ended up being bad RAM. have you tried swapping out some RAM to see if there's a faulty stick?

When's the last time you cleaned for dust? For the fans and the heatsinks?

Fans I dusted last week, I cleaned out the whole thing a couple months ago.

Speedfan monitors the heat. While I may sit at 55C now, during gameplay I'm running in the 65+ range (GPU is at 69).

Don't have spare RAM to switch out, can't afford to go buying parts if I don't know which one is wrong.

Don't use a vacuum cleaner on the computer, the static from the suction will destroy it 10 times over. Use canned air and I forget which cleaning alcohol grade, I want to say its the 90%+ but done quote me. I would also say faulty power supply as well but it could also be others. Some computers I know when they cpu reaches a certain temp it will shut it down so it doesn't destroy itself. You could also have a faulty cpu fan or your thermal paste on the cpu could have gone bad. there are so many things which it why these things can take time.

My CPU temp is at 33 to 35 doing nothing and around 45 to 50 playing games. I might also add that my computer aint normal with it being a CM 932haf case, have 9 fans in the case, and a good quality air cooled cpu cooler.

Good idea. Might be what thermal paste you had there has dried/baked out from running so hot.

For most CPU's the max heat before it's damaged is like 65C, GPUs can go a bit higher, but it depends on the brand/model.

Have you considered getting an aftermarket heat sink for your CPU? You can get a good one for like $30

Pretty sure most can actually hit closer to 70-80 C before damage starts to occur.... I could also be wrong though.

From the temp readings you getting i dont think over heating is the problem. Can you list your PC spec,Is it dual channel ram, how many ram cards do you have ?

If heating is not the issue of your shut downs the next step is to check the ram, Then the power supply. What power supply is it and what is the voltage. How many drives.Hard and cd is it running along with how many of your USB ports are being used. Also how old is your power supply.

Just post your pc build here.

Processors can hit up to 100C before any damage occurs. Most processors go in to thermal shutdown at around 85C. Some less, some more. It depends on the processor.

What is your CPU and GPU utilization? I had an issue with MWO with my old ATI card where it would go to 100% load in the Mechlab (but only ran 55-60% in-game).

If you have multiple RAM chips try pulling them out one at a time and testing to see if anything changes.

As far as your heat, 65-70c could be a huge deal or no problem at all, it just depends on your specific hardware.

when your computer crashes does it just shut down or does it bluescreen? when my wife was having a ram issue it bluescreened the computer.

Update: Took it today to get checked out. Did have a bad RAM stick, removed that but issue still occurs. Taking it back tomorrow, fortunately the guy seems to know what he's doing for the most part and isn't charging me again til he finds out what the issue is.
