If I would like to join the campaing at this time, how much C-bills would be available for the initial mech purchase. I know that I have to start with something basic tech and go on from there but not how much it can cost.
Damn that puts the 55 tonners just out of my reach... Is there any way to sell your soul, prostitute yourself or start in debt Or can someone suggest a griffinesque 50 tonner? That fits within the C-bill constraints?
You can always talk/message with Magnus. See if you can arrange something. Btw, if you didn't know, you can start the MegaMekLab and browse possible mechs from File > Load > From Cache. There's couple of possibilities I see you could build on.
Taking Crab leaves you no money for upgrades. Keep that in mind as Crab can be hot as fuck with STD HS's
True, I have far reaching goals. And I'm just trying to accommodate them. Id like to have a mech that goes 5/8/5 and mounts 2 PPC's and 6 ML's (Tight but possible if you splash out on an XL and ferro or endo) So I want something that can thematically be upgraded along those lines while at the same time being fun to use while saving up. So in the case of the crab the LL's would be upgraded to PPC's and further lasers would be added to the torso battery. A Griffin would be funnier to do a similar upgrade trip with (Though in that case It would involve mounting a big energy weapon on the left arm as well when the XL is installed) But if that's the case I gotta check with magnus about starting in debt or something like that... (or maybe with a partially broken second hand griffin or something)
Sorry, but no. Read here There's a reason why we had to limit them. Even Megamek has a habit to turn into boating PPCs/MLASERs and poptarting.
That just means I will run hotter, its still possible to build it... I'm just basing a possible design on what was fun to do with the griffin yesterday. Also I thought poptarting was impossible in tabletop?
True, you can run your build but it would be very problematic tbh. One (ER)PPC combined with other weapons is a good build to start with I'd say. Even one PPC is dangerous in Megamek. Well, "poptarting"; Fast mech jumping all over the place combined with very good pilot is annoying as heck to deal with. Extremely hard to hit and always has mobility advantage over you. Ask Blue about that if you want some first-hand experiences. EDIT: Btw, try to take at least one Flamer or couple MGs. Believe me, you need them if you run into infantry.
Well that was just a rough outline of what I am looking for gameplay wise down the road. I doubt I'l be able do squeeze in many extras but changing one of the MLs to a flamer or throwing in a mg or something might fit if i do some sacrifices. Then again having some weaknesses is okay if it means I get a mini warhammer that can jump around. *edit* If I go with a Griffin I will use just a single PPC for quite a while, going XL and another PPC would likely be a long way down the road.
Everything Hunter Gamma said above is accurate. That said, Cyko, if you want an energy jump sniper powerhouse, you should still be able to get in the ballpark of what you are looking for... if you are willing to put in the time. Specifically, the XL engine will be a HUGE investment to get. I strongly recommend the Jumping Jack ability if you are taking the Griffin. He already posted it, but for the sake of being thorough, here it is again: http://www.uobgaming.com/showthread...l-OP-(proposed-final-solution-to-the-problem) (read it in detail as the ruling changes over the course of the conversation)
