Good choice, the 970 is the best thing out there right now. This coming from someone who always runs AMD/ATI cards.

It was the best deal for something that will last at least a few years.

No I really mean it is the best thing out there right now:

    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Cards that are slightly faster would be a TITAN Black @$1k, a GTX 780ti @$490, or a GTX 980 @ $530. The next card that is in the same price range is a R9 290x @ $330. The GTX 970 scored at 8641, and the R90 got 6847.

Obviously the 980 is a faster card, but you are paying $200 more for ~15% more power. If I was going to buy a card now, there really is no competition for the 970.

Oh for sure, I really meant that particular card was the best deal I found in the GTX 970 range. I've looked around for at least a couple weeks and prices ranged from $315 to $380, but that EVGA version had the best combination of clock speed, cooler and price that I found AND EVGA has a great reputation for quality. Newegg had it at the best price with free shipping.

If you can afford to, buy the most expensive because it's the best.

If you're not that rich, you should buy expensive one because the cheap ones are shite and since you're poor you can't afford to buy shite, you'd have to be rich to afford to buy shite that needs immediate replacement.

I just got a 970 myself, and absolutely love it. Runs like a dream on all my games set to the highest settings.

Sure! Let me dig up my invoice and I'll tell you how much shipping is.

PRO TIP: It's more than I paid for the card.

Very nice numbers, for a comparison I just tested my dual gpu asus mars 760 with 2gb per gpu and it clocked in at 60.4fps and 1521 with the same settings. I'm thrilled its still has competitive as it is, but man that 970 beats it for less money. Really kinda makes me want to upgrade as well for surround. The dual gpu mars card suffers from typical dual gpu problems where it will have higher max fps but when it has a fps drop it drops hard.

What I like about this is...we have the same CPU and I was worried that might drag the GPU back (for games other than MWO). Those thoughts then had me spiralling into a whole new system build.

Just for fun as I recently got the 980 I also ran the test. I tried to copy your settings but forgot the resolution.

So far I haven't run into any CPU bind but the little I played SC last night my CPU temps were WAY up. I'm still running the crappy stock Intel heat sink so I ordered a Corsair self-contained CPU liquid cooler unit.

When I ordered the whole computer from Germany I paid like ~10€ or so for delivery to door.

Mind you that I can't get fucking shoes delivered domestic for that price. But if it's from Germany, sure! And don't mind the taxes!

The 97o is a really bloody serious piece of gaming kit. I myself am waiting for the 960's to be released so i can get two of them. Been running SLI for over 5 years now and swear by it, I always got the top end 60 range, I started SLI with the 260 and the 460 then 660TI, Always get a massive performance out of them at half of the price of Nvidia's top end card.

Never had any issues with SLI, In a year or so buy a other 970 the identical one you got now, whack it in for SC, Your pc will Piss it with no need to spend a few monkeys on a new card and still get a cracking performance.

Little bastard is friendly to overclocking too.

Managed to bump the GPU +89MHz and the memory +512MHz, and temps never got above 76C. I'll stress test it after my CPU cooler gets here to make sure it holds up over time.

Exactly what I'm planning myself - get another 970 and update my 1680*1050 screen to 3x high precision ones.

According to 3dGuru's test, fps rises roughly 100%.

Cool, you inspired me to do the same. Bumped Core to +175 (1425) and memory +400 (3905), +200/450 gave me slight power issues and some artifacts after 20 mins so had to go down slightly. This has been running smoothly for a pair of hours now. Running slightly hotter than yours though, however the target temp of the reference cooler on the 980 is apparently 80 degrees, this running at max 82 does not have me worried and the auto fan still isnt even working at above 60%.

Also remembered to set quality to ultra this time, kept my res at native though.
