    Spring was busy for me. Was it for you? If you got no plans for this Saturday evening, stay in and talk with us about video games!

    Yes, that's right, another Monthly Meeting! We sort of forgot to do one for April, but April was busy so screw April, right? Lots of exciting things to talk about, so let's do it!

    Reminders (first ~15 mins)
    • Mechwarrior Mondays
    • Total Warhammer Tuesdays
    • Battletech Dynamic Campaign
    Other Stuff:
    • Run & Gun Night (incl. War Thunder) - I don't have time to organize it; maybe someone else does?
    • Valheim - server is still working, but low activity. should go on hiatus until after major update.
      • good, but bosses/biomes are not finished
      • missing some better admin functionality
    • Stellaris Campaign - its much more stable now (finally); do we want to plan a weekend game?
    • Company of Heroes 2 - still doing pick-up games, but nothing formal planned for the near future.
    • New Event ideas?
    Upcoming Games:
    • Avorion - still on the table to return, but on hiatus for now.
    • Elite Dangerous - on hiatus until major update is more stable
    • Foxhole - making progress in deveopment; Dihm's been trying it out.
    • Mechwarrior 5 - release on Steam in May! (big news)
    • M&B Bannerlord - looking very solid, but still unfinished
    • Star Citizen - basically on hiatus for most of us until we can get computers that can run it better.
    • ...others?
    AFTER MEETING:
    • Running With Rifles or Valheim (both are small downloads)

    I've been payiing attention to the updates and from what I can tell, it's basically in a state of what I'm calling "persistent development"... like an MMO, but without the subscription... but also not using a F2P model (the latter of which I am very grateful for). Real progress is being made, but the idea of this being a single "Big Day" release... that ship sailed long ago. I know that's not what a lot of people were hoping for, but that's the de facto situation. It's far from vaporware, but this game is going to be continually tweaked until they get it right... or run out of money... and (for now) the space whales are ensuring there is no lack of money.

    For the record, I am still hopeful for the project, but I am definitely NOT advocating anyone to spend anything more than the basic game package.... and if you want to wait until the game gets to a more stable state, that is entirely understandable.

    In other news, this monthly meeting has been pushed back to May 15th.
    (May 8th is no good for many people on account of it being Mother's Day in the US)

    Agreed. I have all of like twenty bucks into the game and expect the same thing anyone who has dumped crazy money into, just I'll get it by playing the game instead. Since the whole reason I was interested in this is as a modern Wing Commander/Privateer that's not even an inconvenience. Between that and Freelancer I couldn't even guess how many hours I have logged.

    Meeting notes!

    Weekly Games
    • MechWarrior Monday is still going well
    • Tuesday we are playing Torchlight II, which supports up to six players
      • Waiting for Darktide to launch
      • Considering Diablo II when it re-launches
    • BattleTech Wednesday
      • Is still on, but hosts need to upgrade to Windows 10 to host with Parsec app.
      • Magnus will be able to host again after this week.
      • Need Parsec (its free) due to limitations with Steam Remote Play.
    • Thursday we have pickup RTS games (usually Company of Heroes 2, but not always).
    • Currently gauging interest in War Thunder Friday/Saturday
      • Tanks vs Planes and Realistic vs Arcade
      • Watch the forums for a post to organize the event
    Other Games
    • Looking to come back to Valheim later when it is more finished
      • We will be taking the server down for the time being at the end of the billing cycle
      • Be sure to move any gear you want to keep before then
    • Latest Stellaris patch fixed the lag issues
      • Thirty-player games are now possible!
      • Planning a game some weekend
    • Playing pickup games of Company of Heroes
    • Left 4 Dead II is currently on sale for two bucks
    Upcoming Games
    • Avorion is making good progress
      • Planning to revisit this at a later date
    • Elite Dangerous
      • Odyssey DLC is launching soon with FPS content, but it's not there yet
    • Foxhole
      • Like Running with Rifles, but set in a fictional WWII-ish war
      • No limits on players
      • Tons of different roles--if you want you can do pure gathering to collect materials to build base fortifications
      • Expected to go on sale soon if you are interested
    • Bannerlord
      • Making progress, but still not there yet
    • MechWarrior 5
      • Coming to Steam and GOG next week
      • Supports x-platform play if you already own it through Microsoft or Epic
      • DLC is tied to host
      • Infantry and artillery has been added
      • New weapons and new areas added
      • Has its shortcomings, but is still the best version of MechWarrior yet
        • AI isn't great, but has improved
        • UI also has been improved
        • Supports mods
      • Doing pickup games to start
      • Solo considering organizing campaigns using the Borg battalion structure
    • Star Citizen
      • Performance is slowly but steadily improving
      • Next week is Invictus week
      • Walking tours of the Javelin are being hosted

    Thank you JP for taking meeting notes and thank you to everyone who could make it!

    Just my own personal take away from the meeting:
    • I will be upgrading my computer to Windows 10 this week (I need it to host with the Parsec app) so I can renew hosting of the Battletech campaign.
    • I'm really looking forward to joining you all for MW5!
    • Action RPG Night still on for Tuesdays (currently Torchlight)
    • Hardware limitations will prevent me from joining SC's Invictus, but I encourage you all to coordinate with Trev on that.
    • Keep an eye out for Foxhole to go on sale this summer. Dihm says it might be worth it to us to give this one a look.
