Welp, unintended consequences from the delay of Cyberpunk... we are also delayed. So I guess we have to wait until spring or something.... grumble grumble
I wonder how much of this is the new publisher? I'm sure it's something about maximizing profits while minimizing expenses all one campaign for multiple platforms instead of a campaign here and a campaign there. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. It's probably good in the long run.
Since the release that EG7 made said that the finalization of the purchase is spring 2021, I suspect that the delay is significantly because of them. Their advertising experience will be pushing hard for a cross platform release, and I suspect that they want to make sure that the product is a bit more polished than what PGI has considered releasable in the past. At least I really hope so.
Honestly, this was a smart move. I just find it perplexing that they were committed to Dec 10th as long as they were. Besides Cyberpunk sharing the release date, they haven't been able to do any marketing for the game outside of NGNG podcasts. This will give them the time they need. If I may be so bold, I think this might actually be "good news". Plus it will also give us more room to focus on other projects: https://www.theskjaldborg.com/index.php?threads/new-skjaldborg-dynamic-campaign.12812/
I was pretty much right on the money for the reasons of the late notice on the delay. The major reason for the last minute delay was they very recently signed a deal to be acquired by a larger publisher. Besides cyberpunk releasing the same day (which they were very candid about), they wanted more time to leverage their new marketing team to give the Steam launch proper justice. Fair enough.
